SCji General Officers Retired on Full or Eetired Pay or on a Fenslon.—War Services.
'™+ Major General J. T. Norgate served against the rebels in the Googaira district in Oct. and Nov. 1857. Was
present at the mutiny at Mooltan and sent in pursuit of the mutineers with 50 men of the nth Punjaub Infantry
and a Troop of the 6th Irregular Cavalry; came up with the mutineers after a forced march of 57 miles and
destroyed upwards of 500 of them (received the approbation of the Indian and Punjaub Governments, and thanks
of the Home Government). Commanded 12th Punjaub Infantry in the operations in Bundlecund in 1859 (Medal).
'^' Major General North served as Field Engineer with the Column under Lord Keane in the Aifghan campaign of
1838-39. Commanded a Detachment of Sapi)ers and Miners at Herat, in Central Asia, in 1840, and repaired the fortifica¬
tions of that city. Served as Field Engineer with the Kandahar Division under Sir Wm. Nott in 1842, taking part in
the operations which led to the reoccupation of Ghuznee and Cabul (slightly wounded. Medal). Served as Field
Engineer with the Scinde Field Force in 1843 under Sir Charles Napier (Medal). Served with the Persian expedi¬
tion on special duty under Sir James Outram in 1857 (Medal).
'''^ Major General S. M. Nugent served with the 29th Regiment in the Sutlej campaign in 1846—severely
wounded (Medal and Clasp), and was present at the battles of Ferozsshah and Sobraon.
^^3 Major General F. G. Nuthall served in the expedition against Kurnool in 1839. Also with Brigadier 'ftTiitlock's
Column from 23rd .July to 31st Dec. 1857 during the Indian mutiny.
^"* Major GeupralJ. M. Nuttall served during the Satlcj campaign. Present at Allahabad when the late 6th
Bengal Native Infantry mutinied, and served in the operations m and about that city during 1857.
"5° Major General W. S. Oliphant served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the siege and capture
of Mooltan, surrender of the Fort and garrison of Cheniote, and battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
256 Major General .J. W. Orchard served in the In.liau mutiny campaign in 1857-58, including the siege, storm
and capture of Delhi (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Mhhsood expedition of 1S60 and was present at the
forcing of the Berara Pass (Medal with Clasp).
^^' Sir Harry St. George Ord served as Brigade Major in the combined French and English expedition to the Baltic
in 1854, and was at the siege and capture of Bomarsund, for which he received Brevet rank (Medal).
358 M^ajor General J. Orr was employed in the suppression of the mutiny in India in 1857-59 (Medal).
'=' Major General R. Ouseley served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1858, including the campaign in Rohilcund,
actions of Kukraolee and Bareilly, relief of Shahjehanpore and partial action there, and capture of Shahabad
(Medal, Brevet of Major, mentioned in despatches, and thanked by the Governor General).
2=8-)- Major General C. H. Owen served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battle of Inkerman, siege
and fall of Sebastopol, in the Trenches with the siege train, and bombardments of 17th October, 9th April, and 6th,
17th June, and 8th September (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps, Knight of the
Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
^"o Major General H. W. Palmer served with the 74th Highlandere throughout the Kafir war of 1851-53 (Medal).
Served during the Kafir war of 187S in command of the 90th Light Infantry, and was three times thanked in
General Orders for his conduct in comm.and of the operations in Fort Beaufort district (Clasp, CB.).
^" Major General H. W. Parish served tlie Katllr campaign of 1846-47 (Medal), and commanded a mixed force
of Royal Artillery, Cape Mounted Rifles, two Companies of the 45th Regiment, and 900 Zulus, detached from
Natal in aid of the British Resident in the Sovereignty, South Africa, in 1851-52 (mentioned in despatches).
Commanded the 4sth Regiment in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868, and was present at the storming and cap¬
ture of Magdala (mentioned in despatches, CB., and Medal).
262 Major General Parke served in co-operation with the Spanish forces and Legion near San Sebastian, and under
Espartero in raising the siege of Bilboa—Medal (Knight 1st Class St. Fernando and Knight of Isabella the Catholic).
•">2 Major General B. Parrott served the campaign of 1S42 in AfTghanistan under General Pollock (Medal).
2'* Major General W. Paske served with the 28th Bengal Native Infantry in the force employed against Ram
Sing in the Punjaub operations of 1849-50. Served in the Euzofzaie expedition under Sir Colin Campbell in 1852
(Medal). Served in the Indian Mutiny campaign, and received the thanks cf the Government of India for hia
services (Medal).
^s't Mnjor General Charles Pasley served with a Detachment of the 12th and 40th Regiments under^Captain Thomas
at the capture of a stockade orcupied by insurgents at the BalUirat Gold Fields in Australia on the 3rd Dec. 1854.
Se^ri ed on tlie Staff of Major General I'ratt in New Zealand in i860, and was severely wounded at the attack of a
Pah on the I itti October (Brevet of Major, and Medal).
^'^ Major General Alex. Paterson served throughout the Funjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the aSair of
Ramnuggur, passage of the Chenab, battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat, and pursuit of the Sikhs and Affghans
(Medal with two Clasps). Served in the Burmese war in 1853 and was present at the operations against the
rebel chief Mong Goung Gye (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Served in ihe Bhootan campaign in 1865-66 (Clasp).
Served in the Afghan war in 1878-79 with the Candahar Column (Medal).

(Medali. Served also in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58, including the defence of Kumaonand subsequent
operations in Rohilcund (Medal).
267 Miijor General Patton commanded the Reserve in the fort of Agra on 5th July 1857, and was present at the
action on the 10th October. Served as Brigade Major at Putteypore Sikree in November, throughout the actions in
the Churabal ravines under Brigadier Showers (repeatedly thanked in despatches. Brevet of Major, and Medal).
268 Major General Paynter served the Eastern campaign of 1854, including the affairs of Bulganac and M'Kenzie's
Farm, the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, CB., sth
Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
26'J Major General E. N. Perkins served the Gwalior campaign, including the battle of Maharajpore29th Dec. 1843
(Bronze Sta,r). Served also in the Sutlej campaign (Medal).
2;» Major General J. L. Pearse commanded a detachment sent in pursuit of the Cuddapah district rebels under
Nursimah Reddy in 1846, and subsequently when a field force was formed for the suppression of the insurrection
performed the duties of StalT Officer until it was broken up. Joined the 5th Madras Native Infantry in December
1852 during the Burmese war and served with it till May 1853 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
2" Major General F. PhUlips served throughout the Puujaub campaign of 1848-49, includiag the siege and sur¬
render of Mooltan, battle of Goojerat, pursuit and surrender of the Sikli arra.y (Medal with two Clasps).
2"^ Major General Whitworth Porter served the Crimean campaign Irom Feb. to May 1855, including the siege of
Sebastopol (Medul with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
2" Ma.jor General J. H. S. Pierce served with Colonel Scudamore's Flying Column in 1859, also with Captain
Meade's Field Detachment in the same year, and was present at the capture of Tantia Topee.
2'* Major General T. Pierce served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battle of Aliwal (Medal).

2'6 Major General R. H. Price served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the battles of Sadoola,pore,
Chillianwallah, and Goojerat, and pursuit of the Sikhs and Aflghans (Medal with two Clasps). Served also in the
Sonthal campaign in 1855.
2" Major General J. W. Playfair served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the siege and surrender of
Mooltan (Medal with Clasp). Also with the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1856-57, and was present at the storm¬
ing of Reshire, capture of Bushire and Mohumra (Medal with Clasp).
27" Major General Hon. C. D. Plunkett served with the ist Royals in Canada during the rebelUon of 1837-38. Also
the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal
with three Clasps, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Knight of the Legion of Honor, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th
Class of the Medjidie).
27" Major General D. G. Pollard was employed with the Badamee Field Force in 1841, and was present at the storming
of the Petta and subsequent surrender of the fort, and defence of the fort of Gudjundergurh. ,Was present during the
Biege of Aden by the Arab tribes in 1846.
28" Sir Frederick Richard Pollock served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49; on the Sikh outbreak he was Assistant
Resident at Lahore, and accompanied the Ferozepore column as Political Officer to Mooltan; served throughout
both siege operations there with the force under Major Edwardes, but joined his own regiment for the assault of the
