^ General H. Pritchard served in the Vizagapatam Hills in 1832-33. In the Goomsoor campaign of 1835-36. Also
in the Kolapore campaign of 1845.
^ General S.C. Briggs served in the Coorg campaign of April 1S34, and was present Rt the taking of a breast¬
work at CassanhuUy, and at the assault of the Buck stockade. Was employed with the troops at the quelling
of an insurrection in the Shorapore district, and at the capture of Annapah Naick, also against the fort of
Meenageepett and capture of Borsanee Sing in 1842. Commanded a force of the Hyderabad Contingeat and
Resident's Escort on the occasion of the Residency being attacked by a body of Rohillas on the 17th July 1S57.
■* Lieut.General R. Hamilton served in the Burmese war in 1853, and was present at Tonghoo, and 2nd in
Command of the Sitang detachment at the taking of Beeling (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Served in the Indian
mutiny campaign in 1857-5S, including the affairs of Kubrai, battle of Banda, and surrender of Kirwee (Medal
with Clasp for Central India).
3 Lieut.General H. Nott served in the Burmese wariniS52-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Commanded the
detachment which captured the rebel Nursimba Reddy in the Ceded Districts in 1846. Served with General
Whitlock's Force in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal in 1858-59.
1" Lieut.General C. Cooke served as Deputy Assistant Commissary General with the Madras Brigade in the
Burmese war from the 31st March 1852 to the loth April 1853, and was present at the capture of Rangoon and
occupation of Prome (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
12 Lieut.General T. Thompson served with the field force in Kurnool in 1839, and was present at the affair of
Zorapore.
1^ Lieut. General H. Man served in the first Goomsoor campaign of 1835-36, and in the second ca-rapaign in 1837.
Servedinthe Burmese war from July 1852 to July 1853, and was present at the recapture of Billing (Medal with
Clasp for Pegu).
18 Major General C. C. MoCallum served with afield detachment in the Southern Mahratta Country in 1S41, and
was present at the capture of the fort of Badamee.
'■"> Lieut.General H. D. Abbott servedlwith the Nizam's Cavah-y in the operations against Kurnool in 1839 ; as
Brigade Major with the Head Quarters of the Nizam's Cavalry Division during the operations against RohiUas .'is
Waronee and Umee in 1849; also as Brigade Majorof the Force at the investment and reduction of Fort Rai (Msow),
December 1850, and at repulse of the sortie by the Arab Garrison. Served as Brigade Major of the Force at the
siege of Dharoor in January 1851. Also as Brigade Major to the Force in the engagement with the Arabs near
Aurungabad, 22nd September 1853. Commanded one of the attacking Columns on the entrenched village of Jesui-int
Poora. Brigade Major to Brigadier Mayne's Force at engagement with Rohillas at Sailoor 21st Sept. 1854 (severelj'
wounded—sabre cut of left ann and two horses wounded under him). Commanded at Aurungabad during ho
disaffection of the troops at that station in May 1857. Served with the Hyderaliad Contingent Force under Colonel
Orr at the reduction of Peeplia in Malwa. Commanded the ist Hyderabad Cavalry with the Force despatched to
Mahidpoor. Commanded the right attack in the Cavalry action at RawalinNov. 1857. Present with the Malwa
Field Force at the battles of Mundepore and Goodariah 21st 22nd 23rd and 24th Nov. 1857. Commanded a Brigade
of Cavalry at the repulse of the attack made on the rear (Brevet of Major). Served in the action in forcing the Pass
of Dhamonee. Present with the force under Sir Hugh Rose at the action at Mudenpore, and commanded the
Squadron of the 1st Hyderabad Cavalry sent in pursuit; capture of the Fort of Talbhet 12th M.arch 1858 ; invest¬
ment and siege of Jhansie (wounded). Commanded the Hyderabad Cavalry Contingent at the liattles of Koonch
and Golowlee, advance on Calpee, pursuit from Calpee, battle of Morar (horse killed); pursuit of rebels under Tautia
Topee from Gwalior, action at Jowra Allipoor (Medal with Clasp for Central India, and CB.). Commanded a Brigade
of Cftvalry for the protection of the line of the Nurbudda during Tantia Topee's passage into the Deccan in
Nov. and Dec. 1858, and Jan. 1859. Commanded a Field Detachment in pursuit of Rohillas in the Hill country
near Gintoor in Nov. 1859.
21 Lieut.General W. C. R. Macdonald served the Gwalior campaign of 1843-44, and was present as Extra Aide do
Camp to Lord Gough at the battle of Maharajpore (thanked in despatch. Bronze Star). Served in the Turkish Contin¬
gent with rank of Lt.Colonel during the Russian war in 1855-56, and was Commandant of a Regiment of Turkish
Cavalry. Commanded at the Cavalry engagement at Kertch on the i6th Dec. 1S55, where, with 80 Turkish Cavalry,
he twice charged a body of about 500 Russian Hussars and Cossacks. In this encounter lie received a sword-cut on
the right hand, and a severe spear wound in the neck, besides contusions. In allusion to this affair a complixaeutary
General order was issued (4th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
^ Major General F. Young served in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal in 1857-59,'and received the thanks of
the Lieut.Governor of Bengal for a successful pursuit of abody of sepoy rebels in Behar ill June i858,ou which occasion
ho with nine of his men crossed the Poon Poon river in a llooded state and killed with his own hands two of the
sepoy rebels who had remained behind to dispute the passage of the ford, in a hand-to-hand encounter (Medal).
^^ Major General F. G. Kompster served with the Expeditionary Force in China in 1842, and was present at the
storming of Chin-kiang-foo (Medal).
2' Major GeneralA. Hewlett was employed in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal in 1857-59; served as Com¬
missariat Officer with field columns under Colonel Fischer and Brigadier Carthew on the Grand Trunk Road, and
at Cawnpore from September 1857 to January 1858; was present at the actions on the 26th 27th and 28th November
1857 with the Gwalior mutineers before Cawnpore, and in the entrenchments during their subsequent investment
by the rebel force till 6th December following ; was with the head quarters of the regiment at fiuuuee bridge wlieu
it formed the rear guard of Sir James Outram's Force during the period of its occupation of the Alumbagh, also
during the capture of Lucknow. Commanded a field detachment in Gurruckpoor district from 13th September till 27th
November 1858, andengagedinaffairs with the rebels at Bausec on the 22ud and 28th September, atCliittra, at Folia
Betwah, at Biscohu, and Doomaragunge. Was senior Olficor commanding Head Quarters and Right Wiug of his
regiment atthe action before Toolsepore, and was wounded on the 28th September and his horse shot under him.
Served as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General to the field column under Brigadier Faddy in Bundlecund in
March 1859, and engaged in attack and rout of the rebels under Rumnust Sing by a detachment of 2nd Sikh Cavalry.
Served as Assistant Quarter Master General to the Saugor Field Division from July 1859 to the breaking up of tho
divisionon 31st December following (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
2' Lieut.General E. W. Boudier served in the Kurnool campaign in 1839. Served in the Turkish Contingent during
the Russian warin 1855-56, and commanded a Regiment of Turkish Infantry till the war was over (Brevet of Majorj
4th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
3* Major General S. Mainwaring served with the Expeditionary Force in China in 1842, and was present at the
storming and capture of Chin-kiang-foo and investment of Nankin (Medal).
58 Major General E. J. Lawder served as an Acting Deputy Quarter Master General of the Army with the Saugor
Field Division during the whole time it was in the field in 1858-59, was present at the attack on jheeghur, affair of
Kubrai, battle of Banda, relief of Kirwee 25th December, when Division Head Quarters with tho Horse Artillery and
Cavalry marched 84 miles in37hour8, and storming of the heights of Punwarree (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
s' Major General G. R. Phillips served in the Southern Mahratta Country in 1845-46.
