' General Wood served in the Crimea with the Coldstream Guards from the 18th Oct. 1854 to the 5th
May 1855, including the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, 5th
Class of r,he Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
' Sir Edmund Haythorne embarked with the 98th Regt. for service in China in Dee. 1841, and was present with
the expedition to the north of China in 1842, including the operations in the Yangtsekeang, the attack and capture
of Chin Kiang Foo, and the operations before Nankin (Medal). Served as Brigade Major to the Chusan Field Force
under Br.General Campbell from July 1843 until the Island was given up to the Chinese authorities. He served as
Aide de Camp to Sir Colin Campbell, commanding 3rd Division of the Army in the Punjaub campiiigii of 1S48-49, and
was present at the passage of the Chenab, and at the battles of Sadoolapore, Chillianwallah (mentioned in de¬
spatches) and Goojerat (mentioned), and in the pursuit of the Affghans to the Khyber Pass (Medal with two Clasps,
and Brevet of Major). In 1850 as Major commanding flank companies of the 98th Regt. was present at the forcing
of the Kohat Pass under Sir Charles Napier; during this service he commanded a detached column which success¬
fully covered the destruction of two villages and towers (Medal with Clasp). In 1851, as Aide de Camp to Sir Colin
Campbell, he was present at the operations against the Momund Tribe at Miohnee, N.W. frontier, and in the affairs
of the 7th 8th and 9th November. Proceeded to the Crimea with drafts and assumed command of the ist Batt.
Royal Regt. 4th August 1855, and was present at the siege and fall of Sebastopol. Served as Assistant Adjutant
General of the Highland Division until the evacuation of the Crimea (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie,
and Turkish Medal). In 1859, when in command of the Garrison of Hong Kong, he was nominated Chief of the
Staff of the Army formed at that place for service in the north of China, and had the sole responsibility of the
organization of this force until the arrival of Lt.GeneralSir Hope Grant (services honourably mentioned by Lord
Herbert, Secretary of State for War, when jiroposing a vote of thanks to the troops in the House of Lords).
^ Colonel Knowles served with the 77th Regiment in the Crimea from the iithJuly 1855, includingthesiegeand
fall of Sebastopol, and was wounded at the assault of the Redan on the 8th September (Medal with Clasp,and Turkish
Medal). Commanded the 67th Regiment throughout the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present in the engagements
atCharasiab on 6th October 1879 (mentioned in despatches) and in the operations around Cabul in December 1879,
including the engagement ot the Asmai Heights on 14th December—mentioned in despatches (CB. Medal with two
Clasps).
* Lt.Colonel Kingsley served with the 67th Regiment throughout the campaign of i860 in China, including the
action of Sinho, taking of Tangku, and severely wounded in the leg at the storming of the inner Taku Fort; also
present at the surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps). Served with the 67th Regiment throughout the Afghan
war of 1878-80, and was present in the operations around Cabul in December 1879 (mentioned in despatches, Brevet
of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp).
' Major Whitting served as an Ensign in the Indian Army, and was attached to the 23rd Fusiliers during the
Indian mutiny from Nov. 1857 to Oct. 1858. Also served as a Lieutenant with the 8th Regiment during the Oude
campaign till Feb. 1850 (Medal with Clasp for Lucknow).
' Major Baker served with the 67th Regiment throughout the campaign of i860 in China, and carried the regi¬
mental Colour at the action of Sinho, taking of Tangku, and with the storming party at the Taku Port, the ditch
of which he crossed and planted the Colour on the cavalier; also present at the surrender of Pekiu (Medal with two
Clasps). Served with the 67th Regiment throughout the Afghan warof i878-8o,and was present in the operations
around Cabul in December 1879 (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
' Major Seton served with the 67th Regiment throughout the campaign of i860 in North China, including the
action of Sinho, taking of Tangku, storm and ca])ture of the inner Taku Fort, and surrender of Pekin (Medal
with tn'o Clasps). Also served against the Taeping rebels in the vicinity of Shanghai in 1862, and was present
at the taking of the fortified stockades at Naizang, storm and capture of the walled cities of Kading, Tsinpoo,
Najow, and ('holin. Served with the 67th Regiment throughout the Afghan war of 1878-80.
' Major Poole served in the operations against the Taeping rebels in China in 1862, including the second
capture of Kading. Served with the 67th Regiment, in the Afghan war of 1878 80, wounded i B-evet of Major).
'" Major Blundell served with the 67th Regiment in the Afgliau war in 1879-80, and was present iu the operations
aroand Cabul in December 1879, iucludiug the engagement at Asmai Heights (mentioned in despatches. Medal with
Clasp).
" Captains Potter, Tapp, and Briggs, Lieuts. Macdonald, Lloyd, O'Donoghue, Smith, Shaw, Sulivan, and
Gough served with the 67th Regiment in the Afghan war in 1879-80.
'2 Major Jarvis served with the 67th Regiment throughout the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present in the
operations around Cabul in December 1879 (mentioned in despatches), including the engageni'nt at Asmai Heights
on 14th December (mentioned iu despatches), and in the action at Charasiab on. 25th April 1880 (mentioned in de¬
spatches). Accompanied Sir Frederick Roberts iu the march from (jabul to Candahar in August 1880, and was
present at the battle of Candahar (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps, and Bronze
Decoration).

'^ Captains Garfit, Connellan, and Atkinson, Liouts. Le Marchant, Gompertz, Carnegy, Tuite, Hight, and Fagan
