.^fiheral Parren served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 47th Regiment-present uninterruptedly
with the expeditionary force from the commencement of the war with Russia to the breaking up of the Arm3'inthe
n^'l^'i?^ at the conclusion of peace, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, capture of Balaklava, sortie on 26tli
October, siege and fall of Sebastopol. Commanded the 47th Regiment at the battle of Inkerman, and uninterriiptediy
aurmg the siege of Sebastopol (the Trenches) from 5th Nov. 1854 to 8th Nov. 1855, includingthe attacks of the 18th
June and 8th September; at Inkerman he was the Senior Officer of the 2nd Brigade 2nd Division coming out of
action—mentioned in despatches fMedalwith three Clasps, Brevet of Lt.Colouel, C£., Officer of the Legion of Honor,
a n "^'^ and Turkish Medals, and 4th Class ofthe Medjidie).
^olonel Hackett served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 as Adjutant of the 2Sth Regt., including
the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and affair in the Cemetery (Medal with three
Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served with the 26th Cameronians in Abyssinia in 1868
(Medal).
' lit.Colonel Johnstone served with the 33rd Regiment in the Crimea in 1855, including the siege of Seba.stopol and
assault of the Redan on the i8th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Abyssinian cam¬
paign in 1867-68, and was present at the storming and capture of Magdala (mentionedin despatches "for able
management of native carriage," Medal).
• Major Grattan served with the Queen's Royals throughout the campaign of i860 in North China, including
the actions of 3rd and 12th August at Sinho, capture of Tangku and Taku forts, actions of i8th and 21st September
near Tangchow, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps). Was employed on the Natal frontier and
ii^Zululand in the early part of 1879 (Medal with Clasp).
» Major Grant was present at the storm and destruction of the fortified native Mandingo town of Sabajee, ou
the Gambia, on the 1st June 1853.
