1st Battalion embarked for India, 24 October 1875. Qnd Battalion returned from India, 10 Ajiril 1876.
1 General George served throughout the campaign in Scinde in 1842-43 under Sir Charles Napier, including
the destruction of Imaumghur in the Desert, and the battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad, at which last he com¬
manded the 22nd Regt. (Medal, Brevet of Major, and CB.). Served also throughout the campaign in the Southern
Mahratta Country and in the Southern Concan in 1844-45 and commanded a Corps of Detachments at the taking of
the Petahs on the northern fronts of PanuUa and Pownghur, and was present at the investment and capture of
both those forts, being in command of the left flank post. Again during the operations against the Forts Munnahur
and Munsontosh in the Southern Concan, he commanded the left wing of the 22nd Regt., and afterwards com¬
manded the Field Brigade at Kolapore.
' Lt.Colonel Castle served with the 48th Regiment in the Crimea from the zist April 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
3 Major Allardice has been awarded the Royal Humane Society's Medal, and a Medal of Honour of the ist class
by the French Government.
* Lt.Colonel Hodges served in the Indian campaign from Nov. 1S57 to 1859, including the assault and capture of
Meangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, affairs of Barree and Nugger, and was promoted from the 38th to the
76th Regiment for having on the 21st March at the siege of Lucknow successfully led a volunteer partj' and captured
a battery of three guns (Medal with Clasji). Served in the Abyssinian campaign Oct. 1867 to June 7868 in the Land
Transport Train and was appointed Inspecting Officer of the Highland Division of Transport; present at the battle
before Magdala as Transport Staff Officer to Sir Charles Staveley, and carried the despatches of that victory and
news of the release of the prisoners to Custalo, a distance of 200 miles, and was entrusted with the despatches to
Colonel Milward at Annesley Bay (mentioned in despatches for "ability, energy, and zeal," Medal).
5 Major Pearse served in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868 (mentioned in despatches for "ability, energy,
and zeal," Medal).
' Lt.Colonel Bally served as Aide de Camp to Brigadier General Collings in the Abyssinian campaign in 1867-68
(mentioned in despatches for " zeal and intelligence," Medal).
8 Majors Tidmarsh, Nesbitt and Fraser and Captain Conor served with the 33rd Regiment throughout the
Abyssinian campaign of 1867-68, and were present at the storming and capture of Magdala (Medal).
'MajorBurton served with the 40th Regiment during the New Zealand war of 1860-61, including the actions
at Mahoetahi, Matarikoriko, and operations before Te Arei. Also throughout the campaign of 1863-65, for two years
as D.A.Q.M. General (Medal). During the operations in Waikato he superintended to its completion the construction
and organization of the Military Electric Telegraph through the Waikato country (mentioned in despatches).
1" Major Jerrard served in the Ashanti War in 1874, in the Transport Service (Medal).
12 Quarter Master Ames served with the 7th Fusiliers in the Crimea from the 17th June 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol, and assault of the Redan on the i8th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served
also in the Indian N.W. Frontier war of 1863 with the Eusofzye Field Force, and was present at the defence of the
Sungahs at the Umbeyla Pass, and at the attack on and storming of the Conical Hill and destruction of lialoo,
also in the action at Umbeyla and destruction of the village at the foot of the Bonais Pass which ended in the
complete rout of the enemy and the submission of the Hill Tribes (Medal with Clasp).
