J_ Sir Richard Wilbraham served the Syrian campaign of 1840-41 (Medal), including the advance on Gaza and
aHair near Askelon. Served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, as an Assistant Adjutant General, including the
Battles m the Crimea and siege ol Sebastopol (Medal with (Jlasps, CB., Officer of the Legion of Honor, ^rd Class
oftheMedjidie, and Turkish Medal).
a-i {''■•Colonel Beauchamp served with the force under Brigadier General Chamberlain, attached to the 24th (Muzbie)
bikhs, against the Mahsood Wuzeerees during April and May i860, and was present at the forcing of the Burrura
i^ass, taking of Makeen, and other minor affairs (Medal with Clasp).
V ^}^S'^'^^'^ Meares and Groube served in the 7th Fusiliers in the Indian N. W. Frontier war of 1863 with the Busofyze
iJield Force, present at the defence of the Sungahs at the Umbeyla Pass and at the attack on and storming of the
Conical Hill and destruction of Lalloo on the 15th Dec, also in the action at Umbeyla and destruction of the
village at the foot of the Bonair Pass on iGth Dec. which ended in the complete rout of the enemy and the
submission of the hill tribes on 17th Dec. (Medal with Clasp).
'.'-^'■yor Sweny, as a Lieutenant in the 4thRegiment, served in Abyssinia as Aide de Camp to Brigadier General
Wilby; was afterwards appointed Provost Marshal and Baggage Master to the ist Brigade ist Division, and was
present at the action of Arogee and capture of Magdala (mentioned in despatches, promoted Ca.ptain for service^
" Major Barton served in the Ashanti war of 1873-74 in the Transport service, and afterwards in Hussell's
Kegirnent, including the battle of Amoaful, attack and capture of Becquah, advanced guard engagement of .lar-
binbah, skirmishes and ambuscade affairs between Adwabin and the river Ordah (slightly wounded), battle of
Urdahsu and capture of Coomassie (promoted Captain, Medal with Clasp). Served throughout the Zulu war of
1879; first, as Staff Officer to No. 2 Column (Durnford's), and, subsequently, in command of the 4th Battalion of
JNatal Native Contingent, to the end of the war, taking part in the engagement of Gingindhlovu and the opera¬
tions of Clarke's Column (mentioned in Major General Crealock's report. Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
Captain Tanner served in the 72nd Highlanders throughout the operatious in Central India and pursuit of
the rebel force under Tantia Topee and the Rao in 1858-59.
^L^Af'^^' ,W:eron-Maxwell served in Natal and the Transvaal during the latter part of the Zulu war of 1870 (Medal
with Clasp). Of /v V
15 Lieut. Nicholson served in the Zulu war of 1870 as Adjutant of the 4th Battalion of Nat:vl Native Contingent
throughout the operations of Clarke's Column. Had military command of the boats for landing the troops when

pf. ■'^'^^'- Po''tei' served with the 7th Fusiliers in the Afghan war in 1S80, and was present during the investment
01 Candahar, the storming of the village of Deh Khoja, and at the battle of Candahar (Medal with Clasp).

1 Lt.Colonel Longfieldaccompanied the force under Major R. S. Baynes which surprised the garrison and securer
the Fort and magazine of Phillour on the Sutlej on the 12th and 13th May 1857 ; also served at the siege of Dell i
and repulse of sorties on 9th 14th i8th and 23rd July, and capture of four guns on 12th August 1857 ; afterwards
present m the action of Dilkoosha and relief of Lucknow under Lord Clyde, the affair of 2nd and action of 6th Dec.
at Cawnpore, and action of Khudagunj, also served in the Oude campaign of 1858-59 as Brigade Quarter Ma,ster to
Brigadier Kale's Force, and was present at the attack and capture of the Fort and town of Sandee (Medal with two
Clasps).
'Major Whitting served in the Indian campaign from March 1858, and acted as Staff Adjutant to a Detachment
at basseram, and was engaged m the operations against the rebels in the jungles of Jugdespore under Sir E. Lugard;
also served the campaign of 1858-59 in Oude, including the attack and capture of the Fort and town of Sandee (Medal).
