5" Major General W. Rice was at the sieee and capture of the fort of Dhar in October 1857. Was present during
the whole campaign of the Central India Field Force, including; the siege and storm of the fortresses of Chandaree
and.Thansi, battle of the Betwa, storm of Loharee, action at Koonch, the different actions on the banks of the
Jumna from the 15th to the 23rci of May 1S58, ending in the capture of Calpee ; actions at Morar and at and near
Kota-ke-Serai, and capture of Gwalior ; present at the siege and capture of Fowi-ee, and action at Beejapore ; at the
surprise and defeat of Feroze Shah's camp near Sypore, and engaged in the several operations against the rebel
leaders, Tantia Topee and Raja Maun Sing, in the jungles near Padrone (Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major).
^= Major General W.S.Richardson served with the SaugorField Force in the 43rd Light Infantry during the Indian
Mutiny campaign in 1857-59; marched through Central India from Bangalore to Calpee in 1858 a distance of 1,300
miles during the hottest season of the year ; present at the smTcnder of Kirwee ; commanded a Detachment of
the 43rd at the siege of Kirwee when surrounded by 5,000 rebels on the 21st 22nd and 23rd Dec. 1858 ; also com-
manded a Detachment of the 43rd Avhen engaged against the rebels in the Balabet Jungles under Feroze Shah
on the 26tb August 1850 (mentioned in despatches by General AVhitlock for both actions (Medal with Clasp). Com-
manded the 2nd Battalion Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry' in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present iu
the actions at Kassasin on the 28th August (mentioned in despatches) and the gth September, and at the battle of
Tel-el- Kebir — severely wounded (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and
Kbedive's Star). Also served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 (Clasp).
^' Major General E, J. Rickards served in the Affghanistan campaign of 1842 under Sir George Pollock, Sutlej
campaign of 1845-46, Indian Mutiny in 1857-58.
"* Major General C. J. B. Riddel! commanded the Siege Artillery of Outram's Force on the left bank of the Goom-
tee at the siege and capture of Lucknowin March 1858, also commanded the Artillerj-of Lugard's Column at the affair of
Tigree, relief of Azimghur, operations in the Jungle and capture of Jugdespore (three times mentioned in des-
patches, CB., Medal with Clasp).
^5' Major General A. K. Rideout served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battle of
Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, in the Trenches with the siege train, and bombardments of 17th October,
gth April, 6th and 17th June, 17th August, and 8th September: on the last booiljardment he commanded a battery
of Mortars (mentioned in despatches. Medal with two Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).
Served with the Royal Horse Artillerj' throughout the campaign of 1858-59 in Cade, including the occupation of
Fyzabad, passage of the Gooratee at Sultanpore, ailaSrs at Shahpore, Paleeghat, and Kandoo Nuddee ; and iu the
Trans-Gogra district at the affair of Churda, capture of the Fort of Mujeedia, and action of Bankee (Medal).
66tJ Major General J. Ritchie served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58, including the actions of Nimbhera
and Jeerun. the successful defence of Neemuch, and the capture of Kotah (received the approbation of the Govern-
ment of India for his services at Neemuch, Medal with Clasp).
^*' Major General G. R. Roberts served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battle of Sobraon (Medal
with Clasp) . Served in the ] ndian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58, including the operations in the Jugdespore jungles
and the final operations in Oude (Medal).
^^2 Major General J. Roberts served in the Burmese war in 1852-53 (Medal) . Served during the Sonthal campaign
of 1855.
«" Major General D. Robertson served with the Bhootan Expedition in 1865-66 (Medal with Clasp). Served
with the Looshai Expedition in 1871-72 (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Clasp). Also served with the
expedition against the Naga Hill 'Tribes iu 1879-80 (Clasp), and with the Burmese Expedition in 1886-87 (Clasp).

paign of i85''-so, including the capture of Jugdespore, siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp). Served
in the Cossyah and Jyuteah Hills in 1862-63 at the assault and capture of the stockades of Ocmkoi, Nungbarai,
Oomkung, and Surteong (severely wounded). Served with the Bhootan E.xpedition iu 1865 (Medal with Clasp).
Also served iu the Afghan war in 1879-80 (Medal).
'^'- Major General C. G. Robinson served at the siege and capture of Delhi from ist Aug. 1857 (Medal with Clasp) .
Served in the campaign on the North-West Frontier of India in 1863-64 (Medal).
^5' Major General H. G. Robison served with the 7th Bombay N.I. during the campaign in the Southern Mahratta
Country in 1844-45 ; ^is a volunteer under Brigadier Hampton in His Highness the Nizam's service at Gowree against
the Rohillas (received the thanks of Government). Served in the cavalry of the Turkish Contingent from its
formation to the day it was disbanded, a great part of the time as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General (4th
Class of the Medjidie, and the Turkish War Medal). Served in the Indian Mutiny campaign, including the siege
and capture of Ratghur, action at Barodea, relief of Saugor, capture of GaiTakota, forcing of the Muddenpore Pass,
siege and storm ol Jhansi, and the battle of the Betwa (Medal with Clasp for Central India, and specially mentioned
in despatches).
^^ Major General H. G. Robley served with the 68th Light Infantry in the New Zealand war in 1864-66 and was
present at the attack on Gate Pah (Medal).
6"" Major General W. Rooke served in the Crimean campaign from August 1855, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Tm-kish Medal).
6'* Major General R. H. R. Rowley served in the Katlir war of 1851-53 (Medal). Also in the China Expedition
of i36o, and was present at the capture of the Taku Forts, actions of the i8th and 21st September near Tangchow
and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
^'' Major General J. E. Ruck-Keene served in the Crimean campaign of 1854-55, including the battle of
Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol (wounded), in the Trenches with the siege train as Adjutant left attack

Served in the Afghan war in 1878-79, and took part with the second expedition into the Bazar Valley under Lieut.

6~ Major General J . Ruggles served with the expedition under General Wheeler against Kote Kangra in 1846.
Was present at the defence of the Residency at Lucknow from June to Nov. 1857 (Medal with Clasp, and a year's
service). Commanded the 19th Bengal Native Infautrj' in the Bhootan campaign in 1865, including the assault
and capture of the Bala Stockades (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
'"' Major General Lindsay Russell served as Brigade Major of Engineers at the relief of Lucknow by Havelock,
and throughout the subsequent defence of the Residency — wounded (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service) .
'"5 Major General W. C. Russell served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battles of Ferozeshah and
Sobraon (Medal and Clasp). Served under Brigadier NeUl against the mutineers at Allahabad in 1S57, and as
Commissary of Ordnance with the Army iu Oude in 1S5S (Brevet of Major, Medal).
6si Major General V. Ryan served with the 64th Regiment in the N.W. Provinces in suppressing the mutiny iu
1857-58 ; present in the operations at Cawnpore under General Windham (acting as his Aide de Camp), defence
of Cawnpore and defeat of the Gwalior mutineers, and actions of Kalee Nuddee and KerkerouUe, and capture of
Bareilly (Medal) .
682 Major General F. O. Salusbm-y served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 and was severely wounded at the battle of
Ferozeshah (Medal withClasp).Burmese war of 1852-53, including the recapture of Pegu on 21st Nov., relief of its garri-
son on 14th Dec, and operations in the vicinity (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Suppression of the Indian Mutiny, and
was present at the storm and capture of Lucknow — slightlj' wounded (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp). Com-
manded the loist Fusiliers in the Indian N. W. frontier war of 1863 with the Eusofzaye Field Force, and was present
at the attack and capture of the Crag Piquet, the Conical Hill, and Umbeyla {CB., Medal with Clasp).
^^ Major General W. F. Sandwith served with the ist Brigade Central India Field Force in 1858; was present
at tbe siege and storm of Jhansi (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in i88o (Medal).
