"" Major General C. P. Catty served throughout the Kaffir war of 1850-53 (Medal) ; acted as Field Adjutant to the
Infantry at the commencement of hostilities in the engagement in the Boomah Pass, and on the following day when
incapacitated by wounds, was several times nearly taken prisoner. Present at Fort White when that post was stormed
by a large force of the enemy, who were repulsed by a small garrison under Major Mansergh. In May 185 1 he was
appointed Commandantof an Irregular Corps of Europeans, designated " Catty's Rifles," and during thirteen months
of the most active periodof operations this Corps did good and gallant service, being engaged in nearly every patrol
of the and Division.the same being frequentlyacknowledged in general orders, and the various reports of Commanders
of Divisions. On the disbandment of" Catty's Rifles," he rejoined his Regt. (the 6th), and proceeded with the expe-
dition against the paramount chief Kreli, and on his return to head-quarters was appointed to the command of
Fort Grey, which he held till the cessation of hostilities, during which period, besides rendering the post per-
fectly defensible, waggons and cattle, which were onthree occasions taken by the enemy and driven off, were recap-
tured by the garrison under Captain Catty. Was twice severely wounded by musket-balls in the Boomah Pass.
'** Major General G. Cavenagh served as Interpreter to the 54th Foot during the Indian Mutiny (Medal). Served
with the 16th Bengal Native Infantry during the Chinese war of 1860-61, and commanded a party at the west gate
during the attack on Shanghai by the rebels on the 19th, 20th and 21st September i860 (iledal). Served in the
Bhootan campaign (Medal with Clasp).
'*' Major General R. W. Chambers served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 (Medal), and was present at the sur-
render of Kote JCangra.
151 Major General I. F. Chanman served in Abyssinia with the army under Lord Napier of Magdala (Medal).
'^ Major General J. Charley served with the 2nd Battalion 60th Rifles in the Afghan war from October 1878 to
February 1880, and took part in the advance on and occupation of Candahar and Khelat-i-Ghilzie (Medal).
^'^ Major General A. Cherry-Gar ^.ard served with the 90th Light Infantry in India from 12th Aug. 1857 until the end
of the rebellion, including the first defence of the Alumbagh, relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde as Adjutant to the 2nd
Detachment Battalion, defence of the Alumbagh under Outram and repulse of various attacks, assault and capture
of Lucknow, and subsequent campaign in Oude (Medal with two Clasps, and a j-ear's service). Served with the
90th Light Infantry in the Gaika war of 1878, including the operations in the Waterkloof and Perie Bush, and the
engagement at Taba Indoda (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt. Colonel). Also served thron..;hout the Zulu
war of 1879, and was present in the engagement at Uiundi (Medal with Clasp).
'" Major General E. B. Chichester served in the mutiny in India in 1857-58, and was present when the 8ist
Regiment, undf;r Colonel Renny, with two troops of the Bengal Horse Artillery, disarmed at Mean Meer one
Regiment of Native Cavalrj' and three Regiments of Native Infantry, all disaffected and ripe for mutiny (Medal).
Served in the Afghan war of 1878-9 with the Khyber Column, and commanded the 8ist Regiment at the capture of
Ali Musjid (C£., Medal with Clasp).
'5* Major General L. R. Christopher served in the Indian Mutiny campaign, including the operations at
Cawnpore under General Windhain in Nov. and Dec. 1857 (Medal).
"" Major General W. Chrystie served with the Abyssinian Expeditionary Force in 1868, as Field Engineer at
ZouUa during January, at Sennfe in February, and subsequently as Field Engineer at Addigerat in constructing
the entrenchments at that post (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, and Medal).
'58 Sir Stanley de A. C. Clarke served with the Nile Expedition in 188.^-85 in command of the Light Came
Regiment, and took part in the operations of the Desert Column, including the engagement at Abu Klea Wells on
the i6th and 17th February (mentioned in despatches, CMG., and Medal with Clasp).

the capture of Umbeyla (Meda' with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war of 187S-80, and was present at the attack
and capture of Ali Musjid, and with the first expedition into the Bazar Valley under Lieut. General Maude (men-
tioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp). Also served with the Mahsood Wuzeeree H.xpedition
in 1881. Served in the Soudan campaign in 1S85 as Brigade Major with the Indian Contingent, and was
present in the engagements at Hasheen and the Tofrek zereba (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Lt.Colonel,
Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
''' Major General C. Cookworthy served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battle of Sobraon (Medal).

the Artillery with Sir T. Seaton's Field Force at the action of Bunkegaon (three times mentioned in despatches,
Medal, and Brevet of Major).
173 Major General W. W. Corban served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma and
Inkermau, siege of Sebastopol, and sortie of 26th October (Medal with three Clasps, ami Turkish Medal). Com-
manded the ist Battalion Berkshire Regiment throughout the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the
surrender of Kafr Dowar (Medal, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star).
