1 Lt.General F. G. T. Deshon served with the 22nd Regt. in Scinde, and was present at the battle of
Hyderabad (Medal). He served also the campaign in the Southern Mahratta country in 1844-45, and was present
at the investment and capture of the Forts of Panulla and Pownghur, as also in the operations against the Forts
of Munnahur and Munsontosh in the Southern Concan. Landed in the Crimea with the 48th Regt. on 21st April
1855, and served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and commanded a portion of the Regiment detached on duty
in the Dockyard from 14th January to 14th March 1856 (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
23 Major Sparke served with the 51st Light Infantry in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present at the
attack and capture of Ah Musjid (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Burmese Expedition from 1886 till the close
Of i38 7 with the 1st Battalion of the Yorkshire Light Infantry (Medal with two Clasps).
20 Lt.-Colonel Elles served in the Burmese Expedition from 1886 till the close of 1887 with the 1st Battalion of
the Yorkshire Light Infantry (Medal with two Clasps).
K Major Hamilton served in the Burmese Expedition from 1886 till the close of 1887 with the ist Battalion of
the Yorkshire Light Infantry, and for six months as Staff Ollicer to the Officer Commanding at Bhamo (Medal
with two Clasps).
"> Major Ellis served with the 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in the Zhob Field Force
in 1890 under Sir George White during the Zhob and Kiderzai Expeditions and in the march to Vihowa. Served
with the Mounted Infantry in South Africa in 1901-02, and took part in the operations in the Orange Free State,
April and May 1900, including actions at Houtnek, Vet River, and Zand River ; in the Transvaal, May and June
1900, including actions near Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Diamond Hill; in Orange River Colony, including
action at Wittobergen • operations in Cape Colony, December 1900 to March 1901 ; and the Zululand Frontier ot
Natal, September and October 1901 (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with four Clasps ; King's
Medal with tsvo Clasps).
*' Major Rogers served as Transport Officer to the 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in tho
Zhob Field Force in 1890 under Sir George White during the Zhob and Kiderzai Expeditions and the march to
Vihowa ; and with the Isazai Field Force in 1892. Served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India
under Sir William Lockhart hi 1897-98 with the Kohat-Kurram Force as Transport Officer, including the opera-
tions on the Samana Range (mentioned in despatches) ; with the Kurram Movable Column as Transport Officer
(mentioned in despatches) ; and with the 4th Bngado Tirah Expeditionary Force with the 2nd Battalion King's
Uwn Yorkshire Light Infantry (Medal with three Clasps).
