61 Lieut. G. S. Symes served with the Aden Boundary Commission in 1903-04. Specially mentioned in des-
patches as " displaying great coolness and gallantry on the 7th Nov., when a body of Kotaibis suddenly opened
fire on the Hampshire detachment at short range, causing momentary confusion. Lieut. Symes carried Private
Treadwell back some thirty yards, under a hot fire from close quarters when the latter was wounded and ur.able
to move, Lieut. Symes being at the time practically alone" (DSO.).
