42 Captains Campbell (DSO.) and Barrett served in the South African war m 1899-1902 with the 2nd Battalion
Lancashire Fusiliers with the Ladysmith Relief Force, and was present in the engagement at Venters Spruit
— slightly wounded (mentioned in despatches).
