1 Major General E. L. England served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1S58, and was present at the actions
at Amorah on the 17'h and 25th April (Medal). Served in the operations against Sekukuni ia the Transvaal in
1878, including the storming of Tolyana's Stadt ; also throughout the Zulu war of 1S79, taking part in the
•engagements at Znngin Nek and Kambnla Hill, and, in comma' d of the 1st Battalion, in the action at Ulundi
{a entioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp).
2 Colonel R. B. Williams served with the 1st Battalion Somersetshire Light Infantry in its march from Maritz-
burg to Pretoria in February and March 1S77 under General Pearson, for the purpose of the annexation of the
Transvaal. Served with the 1st Battalion in the operations against Sekukuni in the North Tran'-vaal in 1878
under General Rowlands, V.O., including the storming of Tolyana's S'adt ; also served throughout the Zulu war
of 1879 in Sir Evelyn Wood's Flying Column, and was present in the engagements of Zungin Nek, Kambula
Hill and Ulundi (VLedal with Clasp). Served in the South African war in 1899-1902 with the 2nd Battalion, and
took part in the operations in Natal 1899 ; was present at the relief of Ladysmith, including operations of 17th to
24th Jan. 1900, and action at Spion Kop; operations of 5th to 7th Feb. 1900, and action at ValKrantz; the
operations on Tugela Heights, 14th to 27th Feb. 1900 j operations in Natal, March and April 1900; operations in
Orange Free State under General Hart for the relief of Wepener, April and May 1900; the advance from Vryburg
to Johannesburg under General Hunter; operations in the Transvaal east of Pretoria, July 1900; operations
against De Wet in Orange River Colony under General Hart; relief of Colonel Sore, at Elands River; operations
in the Gatsrand, Potchei'slroom and Ventersdorp districts; under General Barton in the Klerksdorp district;
and under Gener-il Babington in the Magaliesberg district; in the Transvaal Nov. 1900 to Feb. 1902 ; operations
in Orange River Colony, June and July 190 1 ; in command of 2nd Battalion Dec. 1899 to Jan. 1900; also of a
Detached Wing of the Battalion from May 1900 to May 1901; served as Commandant at Springs and on Head
Quarters Staff July 1901 to Feb. 1502; commanded cmvoys from Magaliesberg and Krugersdorp ; and the
Infantry of General Kekewxh's column, Dec. 1900 to Jan. 1901 (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel,
Medal with five Clasps, King's Medal with two Clasps).

12 Major Cox served with the Burmese Expedition in 1886-87 with the 2nd Battalion Somersetshire Light
Infantry, and was slightly wounded in an engagement on the 22nd March 1887 (Medal with Clasp). Sen ed in the
campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in -'S97, and was present in the en-
gagement at Shabkadr (mentioned in despatches) ; also served with the Mohniand Field Force with the tst
Battalion Somersetshire Light Infantry (Medal with Clasp).
