2 Colonel Marling served with the 3rd Battalion 6olli Rifles in the Boer war in 188 1, and was present in the
engagements at Lang's Nek and the Ingogo River. Served with the 3rd Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps in the
Egyptian war of 1882, and was present in the engagement at Tel-el-Mahuta, in the action at Kassasin (9th September)
and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served throughout the Soudan Expedition
in 1884 with the Mounted Infantry, and was present in the engagements at El Teb and Temai (mentioned in despatches,
Victoria Cross, two Clasps) : was awarded the "S'& " for his conspicuous bravery at the battle of Temai, on 13th March
1884, in risking his life to save that of Private Morley, Royal Sussex Regiment, who, having been shot, was lifted and
placed in front of Lieutenant Marling on his horse. He fell off almost immediately, when Lieutenant Marling dis-
mounted, and gave up his horse for the purpose of carrying off Private Morley, the enemy pressing close on to them
until they succeeded in carrying him about 80 yards to a place of comparative safety." Served in the Nile Expedition
in 1884-85 with the Mounted Infantry, and was present at the actions of Abu Klea and Abu Kru in the reconnaissance
before Metammeh, and in the second action at Abu Klea (two Clasps). Served in the South African war in 1899-1901,
and took part in the operations in Natal in 1899, including actions at Talana and Lombard's Kop ; also took part in
the defence of Ladysmith, including sortie of 7th Dec. 1899 ; the operations in the Transvaal March to Sept. 1901 and Nov.
1901 to 31st May 1902 ; in Orange River Colony March and May 1902 ; and on Zululand Frontier of Natal in Sept. and
Oct. 1901 ; in command of 18 th Hussars from 10th April 1901 to 31st May 1902 (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal
with four Clasps, King's Medal with two Clasps).
Lt. Col. Pollok-Morris served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 189s (Medal with Clasp).
Served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in 1897-98 with the Tirah
Expeditionary Force (mentioned in despatches, two Clasps). Served in the South African war in 1899— 1902 —
slightly wounded ; and took part in operations in Natal in 1899, including action at Talana ; in the Transvaal 30th Nov.
1900 to 31st May 1902 ; in Orange River Colony March and May 1902 ; and on Zululand Frontier of Natal in Sept. and
Oct. 1901 (mentioned in despatches, DSO., Medal with four Clasps, King's Medal with two Clasps).

1900, including engagements at Belfast, 26th and 27th August, and Lydenberg, 5th to 8th Sept ; in the Transvaal 30th
Nov. to Sept. 1901 and Nov. 1901 to 31st May 1902 ; in Orange River Colony March and May 1902 ; and on Zululana
Frontier of Natal in Sept. and Oct. 1901 (twice mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with five Clasps, King's
Medal with two Clasps).
8 Major C. H. Corbett served in campaign on North West Frontier of India in 1897-98 with Tirah Expeditionary Force
(Medal with two Clasps). Served in South African war in 1900-02 ; took part in operations in Transvaal Dec. 1900 to
