The King's Royal Rifle Corps.
Raised in 1755 as a Regiment of four Battalions, and entitled " The 62nd Royal American Regiment." Re-numbered
" The 60th," 1756. 4th Battalion disbanded 1763, and 3rd Battalion 1764. Both again raised, 1775 and disbanded 1783.
Raised a third time, 1787 (the 3rd Battalion being the present 2nd). 5th (Rifle) Battalion, raised 1797 and Rifle Companies,
added to other Battalions. 6th Battalion raised 1799, and 7th and 8th Battalions (Green), 1813. At the end of 1815 the
remaining Red Battalions clothed in Green and the Regiment called Light Infantry. 8th Battalion disbanded 1816 ;
7th, 1817 ; 6th, 1818 ; the 5th (Rifle) Battalion the same year, the men being drafted into the 2nd Battalion, which became
" The Rifle Battalion," the 3rd Battalion being styled " Light Infantry." 1st, 4th, and 8th Battalions disbanded 1816,
the 2nd becoming the 1st (Rifle) Battalion and the 3rd the 2nd (Light Infantry). Title changed to " The Duke of York's
Own Rifle Corps and Light Infantry," 1824, and later in the same year " The Duke of York's Own Rifle Corps." Title
again changed to " The King's Royal Rifle Corps," 1830. 3rd and 4th Battalions raised the fourth time in 1855 and 1857
respectively. The number (60th) omitted from the title, 1881.

Guadaloupe, 1S10. Peninsula War of 1808-14, including the battles of Roleia, Vimiera and Corunna, passage of the Douro,
battles of Talavera, Busaco, Fuentes d'Onor, Albuhera, Arroyo dos Molinos, siege and assault of Ciudad Rodrigo, capture
of Badajoz, battle of Salamanca, siege and assault of Castle of Burgos, battles of Vittoria, Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, Toulouse
and Bayonne. Punjab campaign in 1848-49, including the siege of Mooltan and battle of Goojerat. Kaffir War in 1851-53.
Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58, including the siege, assault and capture of Delhi. China War in i860 (Taku Forts and
Pekin). Red River Expedition, 1870. Afghan War of 1878-80 (battle of Ahmed Khel, march to Candahar under Sir
Frederick Roberts and battle of Candahar). Zulu War in 1879 (battle of Gingindhlovu). Boer War in 1881. Egyptian
War of 1882, including the battle of Tel-el-Kebir. Soudan campaign in 1884 (El Teb and Temai). Hazara, Miranzai and
Burmese Expeditions, 1890-91. Chitral Relief Force, 1895. South African War, 1899-1902 ; Talana, Reitfontein,Lom-
bard's Kop, Defence and Relief of Ladysmith, Colenso, Spion Kop, Vaal Krantz, Pieter's Hill, Laing's Nek, Belfast and
