Record of the Services of the 1st Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, — formerly the 35^ Regiment.
The 1st Battalion raised in Ireland by the third Earl of Donegall in 1701 and was entitled " The Earl of Donegall's
Regiment." It was known also as " The Belfast Regiment," from being raised at Belfast and as " The Prince of Orange's
Own Regiment," from the orange facings given to it by King William the Fourth. To Cadiz and thence to the West Indies,
1702 (capture of Gaudaloupe, 1703). To Gibraltar, 1704 (siege). To Spain, 1705 (capture of Barcelona), To Ireland,
1708. To Minorca, 1719. To Ireland, 1736. [2nd Battalion raised in 1748 and reduced in 1849.] Entitled the " 35th
Foot," 1751. To England, 1756. To North America and Nova Scotia, 1758 (capture of Louisburg). To Quebec, 1759
(battle of Quebec and capture of Montreal). To England, 1765. To Ireland, 1773. Entitled "The Prince of Orange's
Own Regiment," 1774. To America, 1775 (battle of Bunker's Hill, etc.). To Brunswick, 1777. To the West Indies,
1778. Entitled "The Dorsetshire Regiment," 1782. To England, 1785. To Scotland, 1788. To Ireland, 1791. To the

1885 (Hazara Expedition of 1888 N. W. Frontier of India campaign, 1897-98).
