1 Sir Charles Knox served with the Bechuanaland Expedition in 1S84-85 under Sir Charles Warren, when he raised
£nd commanded the 4th Pioneer Regiment (Brevet of Lt.Colonel). Served in the South African war in 1899-1000
in command of the 13th Brigade, and took part in the operations in the Orange Free State, Feb. to May 1900, in-
cluding those at Paardeberg of 16th to 27th Feb. 1900 — severely wounded (three times m?ntioned in despatches,
KCB., promoted Major General for Distinguished Service in the Field).
8 Colonel Doyle served in Afghan war in 1879-80 with Koorum Division, including the Zaimusht Expedition
and assualt of Zawa (Medal). Served with expedition against Tambi. on West Coast of Africa, in 1892 (Medal with
Clasp). Served in South African war in 1899-1900, 1902, took part in operations in Orange Free State, Feb. to May
1900, including actions at Houtnek, Vet River, and Zand River; also in Transvaal in May and June 1900, including
actions near Johannesburg and Pretoria ; in Transvaal, east and west of Pretoria, July to 29th Nov. 1900, including

1st Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry (Clasp), and in subsequent occupation of Suakin by British troops in 1885-86.
6 Lt.Colonel Austen served with 1st Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry in Egyptian war of 1882, and was present
at the surrender of Kafr Dowar and Damietta (Medal, and Khedive's Star). Served in expedition to Soudan in
1885 with 1st Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry, and was present in engagement at Takdoul — wounded (Clasp).

Star). Served with the expedition against the Hunza-Nagf.rs in 1891-92 (mentioned in despatches, Medal with
Clasp). Commanded the troops during the siege of Chitral Fort from -?id March to 18th April 1895 (received the
