War Services of Field Officers Retired from the Militia and Yeomanry Cavalry.
1 Colonel Bates served with the 65th Regiment during the New Zealand war of 1860-61 at Taranaki, and was
riresent at tbe operations at Huirangi and before Te Arei. Was afterwards appointed Native Interpreter to the
Forces, and was present on the Staff at the outbreak of hostilities in the Taranaki district in 1863, capture of the
Pa Katikira, and subsequently in the Waikato district (Medal).
2 Colonel Biu served with the Burmese Expedition in 1886 attached to Brigadier General Stewart's Staff in the
Ruby Mines Expedition (iledal with Clasp).
3 Colonel Bircham served with the 3rd Battalion 60th Rifles in the Zulu war of 1879, and was present at the
action of Gingindhlovu and relief of Ekowe (Medal with Clasp).
*i Lord Blythswood served with the Scots Fusilier Guards in the Crimea from the 22nd May to the end of Aug.
1855 ; was present at the siege of Sebastopol, and wounded in the Trenches by a shell on the 22nd of Aug. 185s
<Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
* Colonel Browning served with the 89th Regt. in the Crimea from 20th Aug. 1855, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol and attack of the 8th Sept. (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal I. Served during the Indian
Mutiny in 1857-5S as Staff Ofhcer to a Field Force in Guzerat, including the attack on the Taringa Hills (men-
tioned in despatches) ; acted in the same capacity to another Field Force in Aug. 185S, and was present at the
attack and capture of Manieth— horse shot.
5 Colonel Buchanan served with the 88th Regt. in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, including the actions at
Cawnpore under Major General Windham, battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec, capture of Lucknow, operations in
the Doab with the Column under Colonel G. V. Maxwell, to whom he was Orderly Officer, and siege and capture
of Calpee in May 1858 (Medal with Clasp).
6 Sir John Burgoyne served in the Grenadier Guards in the Crimea in 1854, and was severely wounded at the
battle of the Alma (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
7 Colonel de Sa isserved as a volunteer with the OapeMoirnted Riflemen during the Kaffirwarof 1851-52 (Medal).
s Colonel DratlWn served in the Baltic during the latter part of 1854 (Medal). Was at the blockade of Odessa,
and also before Sebastopol during the siege in 1855 (Medal with Clasn, and Turkish Medal).
8 Colonel L. G. Dundas served with the 62nd Regiment in the Crimea from the 16th August 1855, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and attack of the Redan on the 8th September (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish
Medal).
10 Sir James Ferguson served with the Grenadier Guards the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 4th Mar
1855, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman (wounded) and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps,
and Turkish Medal).
11 Colonel G. G. Gordon served throughout the Eastern campaign f 1854-55, including the battles of Alma,
Ealaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and sortie of 26th Oct. ; was Aide de Camp to General Simp-
son from 22nd Aug. to 12th Nov. 1855 (Medal with four Clasps. 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
12 Colsnel F. J. Halkett served with the 71st Highlanders in the Crimean campaign from the 5th February to
the 17th September 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol and Expeditions to Kertch aad Yenikale
(Medal with Clasp, Sardinian and Turkish Medal).
