30 t Colonel R. K. Bayly served in the Crimea from the 13th October 1855 till the 23rd July 1836. Served with the
42nd Highlanders in the campaign of 1857-58 against the mutineers in India including the actions at Cawnpore (6th
Dec. 1857), Seraighat, Kudygunge, and Shumsabad, siege and fall of Lucknow and assault of the Martiniere and
Banks' Bungalow, attack on the Port of Rooyah, action of Allygunge, attack and capture of Bareilly and action at
Sisseaghat — wounded (Medal with Clasp). Embarked for title Gold Coast with the 42nd Highlanders. Served in the
second phase of the Ashanti war in 1874, and was present at the battle of Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie (Brevet
of Major, Medal with Clasp). Served with the 1st Battalion Black Watch in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was
present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, 4th Class of the Osmanieh, and Khedive's Star). Served in
■the Soudan Expedition in 1884 with the 1st Battalion Black Watch, and was present in the engagement at El Teb
(3rd Class of the Medjidie, two Clasps). Served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 with the 1st Battalion of the Black
Watch, took part with the River Column under Major General Earle, and was present in the engagement at Kirbekan
(mentioned in despatches, CB., and two Clasps).
31 Colonel H. Beal served with the 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment in the Egyptian war of 1882,
and was present in the reconnaissance in force from Alexandria on the 5th August (Jledal, and Khedive's Star).

Earle, and was present at the aetion at Kirbekan, where he commanded the Batt ilion after Colonel Eyre had

36 Colonel A. Bennett served the Eastern campaign 011854-55 in the 7th Fusiliers, including the battles of Alma and
Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol, and sortie on 26th October (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Medal). Served also in the Indian N.W. frontier war of 1863 with the Eusofzye Field Force, preseut at the
defence ef the Sungahs at the Umbeyla Pass and at the attack on and storming of the Conical Hill and destruc-
tion of Lalloo on the 15th December, also in the action at Umbeyla and destruction of the village at the foot of the
Bonait Pass on 16th December which ended in the complete rout of the enemy and the submission of the hill tribes
on the 17th December (Medal with Clasp).
37 Colonel W. Bennett served in the Hazara campaign in 1868, including the expedition against the tribes on the
iilack Mountain (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's
Star). Served with the Soudan Frontier Field Force in 1885-86 during the operations ou the Upper Nile in com-
mand of the 1 st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, and was present in the engagement at Giniss (mentioned in
despatches, DSO.).
38 Colonel W. VV. Bennitt served with the Inniskilling Dragoons in the Boer war of 1881, and commanded an
escort with Sir Eveivn Wood to Zululand. Served in the Bechuanaland Expedition under Sir Charles Warren ia
1334-85 with the Inniskilling Dragoons.
3a Colonel M. W. D. Beresford served with the 49th Regiment in the Crimean campaign from 25th December 1854
to 26th July 1855, including the siege of Sebastopol and assault of the Redan on the 18th June (Medal with Clasp,
md Turkish Medal).
^ Colonel H. L. C. Bernard served with the force under Colonel Mackeson in Hazara and the fiussunzaie cam-
paign of 1852-53, and present at the affairs of the Black Mountain and taking of the fort. Served as Adjutant of the
Hazara Goorkha Battalion throughout the Mahsood Wuzeeree campaign of i860 with the force uuder Brigadier
General Chamberlain, and was present at the repulse of the attack on the British Camp at Paloseen, storming the
Heights of Burrurah, and in the subsequent operations leading to the occupation of Raneegorum and burning of
Mookeen (Medal with Clasp).
41 Colonel J. F. Betty served in the New Zealand war in 1864-66, including the Waikato campaign and action at
Orakau (mentioned in despatches) in command of a Battery; alsoduringthe Wanganui campaign, ana commanded
the Field Guns in action on the Patea river in March 1865, aad in other skirmishes on the Wanganui coast, and
present at the attack and defeat of the natives at Kaitaki (Medal).
43 Colonel T. Biggs served in the SouthernMahratta campaign of 1844-45, including the sieges of the forts of Mono-
Jaur and Munsuntosh.
43 Colonel E. H. Bingbam served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 with the Quetta Field Force, and took part in the
Zaimuiht Expedition (Medal . Served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 in command of
the 13th Bengal Infantry (Medal with Clasp). Served in the campaign on the North We4 Frontier of India under
Sir William Lockhart in 1898 with the Buner Field Force as Base Commandant (mentioned in despatches, Clasp).
