Gwalior Contingent at Cawnpore on 6lh Dec, action of Khodagunge an I occupation of Futtehghur, capture of
Bareilly, relief of Shahjehanpore Jail, and action of Khanimr (Brevet of Mai <r, Medal with Clasp). Commanded
a battalion of Canadian Riflemen in the Red River Expedition of 1870 (CMO. and Medal). Was on special service
in South Africa from February 1878 to May 1880, and was appointed Commandant General of Colonial Forces in
May 1878 (Medal with Clasp).
425 Major General A. Jenkins served as a volunteer with the 35th Madra3 Native Infantry during the Burmese
war in 1852-53, and waspresent at the capture of Prome 9th and 10th October 1852 ; at Nowany from 1st November
to 20th December 1852 ; accompanied the force to Meeaday, and was engaged in the attack on stockades there,
and other minor affairs (Medal with Clasp foi Pegu). Accompanied the small force in aid of the Civil Power
from Quilon to Cochin in January 1857.
427 Major General C. Vernon Jenkins served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857 (Medal). Also served in the
China war in 1858-59 (Medal).
428 Sir Francis H. Jenkins served with the 4th Sikh Infantry at the siege and assault of Delhi -severely
wounded (Medal with Cla3p). Commanded the 4th Punjab Infantry in the expedition against the Cabool Kheyl
Wuzeerces in 1859 ; present at the action of Maidani. Commanded a wing of the 4th Sikh Infantry in the expedition
against the Mahsood Wuzeerees in i860 ; and present at the action of Palasin, and at the forcing of Barrara Pass.
Commanded the Corps of Guides in the Umbeyla Expedition in 1863; present at the retaking oi the Crag Piquet,
and the action at the Conical Hill (Medal with two Clasps). Commanded the troops engaged at the attack of the
villages in the Utman Kheyl Hills on the 2rst March 1878. Commanded the Corps of Guides in the Afghan war of
1878-80, and was present at the capture of Ali Musjid and at the engagements around Cabul in December 1879, and
at Charasiah (CB., Aide de Camp to the Queen, Medal with two Clasps).
429 Major General Jephson served with the 2nd Queen's the campaign in Afghanistan and Beloochistan including
the storm and capture of Ghuznee (Medal) and of Khelat. He served also the campaign in the Southern Mahratta
country in 1844 (including the storm of the Fortress of Punella), and that in the Concan in 1845 ; he commanded the
storming party at the Western Heights of Punella (wounded) . Served also in the campaign of i860 in China (Medal,
and CB7).
430 Major General H. E. Jerome served with the 19th Regiment in the Indian campaign of 1857-59, including
operations against the rebel tribes in Goojerat, storm and capture of Ohundairee — led the storming party, siege and
capture of .Jhansi, where, under a murderous Are, he assisted in securing Ensign Secoal, who was severely wounded
(mentioned in despatches) ; also present at the action of Koonch and at the various engagements before Calpee —
severely and dangerously wounded (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Victoria Cross, and Medal with
Clasp) : received the JT(!C " for conspicuous gallantry at Jhansi, on the 3rd April 1858, in having, with the assistance
of Private Byrne, removed, under a very heavy fire, Lieutenant Sewell, of the 86th Regiment, who was severely
wounded, at a very exposed point of the attack upon the fort ; also, for gallant conduct at the capture of the Fort
of Chandairee, the storming of Jhansi, and in action with a superior rebel force on the Jumna, on the 28th May
1S58, when he was severely wounded." Served in the Hazara campaign of 1868, including the expedition against
the tribes on the Black Mountain (Medal with Clasp).
434 Major General H. L. Jones served in suppression of the Indian Mutiny in 1837-58, including the battle of
Agra (Medal).
435 Major General R. 0. Jones landed on the Gold Coast on the 23rd December 1873 in command of the 28th Com-
pany Royal Engineers, and served until the close of the Ashanti war (Medal).
136 Major General R. R. Jones served in the Crimean campaign from Dec. 1854, including the siege and fall of
Sevastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
435 Major General F. Karslake was present with the 83rd Regiment at the siege of Kotah and its capture by assault,
affair at banganeer, and defeat of the Gwalior rebels at Kotaria (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Boer war of
1881 with the Natal Field Force.
439 Major General G. F. Kaye served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 185 7-59, and was present at the attack of
the rebels on our guns at Jullundur, and subsequently served with Showers' Column in Rajpootana and Central
India in pursuit of Tantia Topee, Feroze Shah, and other rebels, including the operations in the Seronge Jungles
and the affair at Patun (Medal).
440 Major General E. Keate served in the Crimean campaign from March to August 1855, and was present at the
siege of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
142 Major Geneial J. W. A. Kennedy served under Admiral SirT. Cochrane in the operations against the Pirates in
Borneo during August 1845 ; was actively engaged on shore in the attack on Brune', the destruction of a stockade, and
the capture of a battery of guns together with large quantities of ammunition ; served subsequently in the foremost line
of boats at the attack on the Pirate stronghold of Malloodoo, and on the boom being broken, was landed with the
Marine force which drove the pirates from their entrenchments and pursued them up the country. In 1846 he
served with the force under Colonel Despard in the operations in New Zealand, and was actively engaged in the
advance on, siege and capture of, the Ruapekapeka stockade, an event which ended that war (Me tal).
443 Major General W. H. Kerr served in the Indian campaign and commanded the Left Wing 13th Light Infantry
in a general action at Araorah on 17th April 1858, also on 25th April he commanded 150 ineu in an action before the
same place ; on 29th April commanded the Left Wing 13th Light Infantry at the attack and capture of the Fort of
Nuggur (mentioned in despatches) ; and on 9th June at the attack of the rebels' position at Arnorah ; and was at
Hurriah when attacked by the rebels on 29th August (Brevet of Major, and Medal).
444 Major General A. A. A. Kinloch served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master
General, and was present at the attack and capture of Ali Musjid, with the expeditions into the Bazar Valley under
Lieut. General Maude (mentionedin despatches), and in the advance to Cabul under Brigadier General Charles Gough
(mentioned in despatches, Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Medal with two Clasps). Served with the Chitral
Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 in command of the 1st Brigade (received the thanks of the Govern-
ment of India, Medal with 1 :lasp).
445 Major General W. H. Knight landed with the 48th Regiment in the Crimea on the 21st April 1835, and served
at the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
446 Major General J. B. Knocker was actively employed during the mutiny against the insurgents in the
Sumbulpore district in 1857-58.
447 Major General C. F. G. Lamb was wounded (charger also wounded) at the defeat of the mutmeers at
Mooltan on the 31st Aug. 1857 (Medal).
44 ' J Major General W. Lambert served with the 88th Regiment in the Crimea from the 22nd January to 26th March,
and from June to the 17th September 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, the attac'fi of the Quarries,
and attacks of the Redan on the 18th June and 8th September — severely wounded (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish
Medal). Served also in suppression of the Indian Mutiny in 1858, including the affair at Bhognapore, siege of
Lucknow in March, and siege of Calpee (Medal with Clasp for Central India). Commanded the 88th Regiment
throughout the Kafir war of 1877-78 (mentioned in despatches and OB.) and throughout the Zalii war of 1879
(Medal with Clasp).
450 Major General C. P. Lane served in the Punjaub campaign or 1848-49, including the passage of the Chenab,
action of Ramnuggur, and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Indian .Mutiny cam-
paign in 1858, including the siege and capture of Lucknow, and capture of Pellalpore (mentioned in despatches,
Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
JSl Major General C. S. Lane served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58, including the siege and capture
of Delhi, actions of Bolundshur, Allyghur, and Agra, relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, and battle of Cawnpore on
6th Dec. 1857 (Medal with two Clasps). Served with the Bhootan Expedition in 1863 including the capture of
Dewangiri (Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in 1878-79 (Medal).
" 4 Major General F. T. A. Law served in the Crimean campaign from June 1S55, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Mtdal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served with the expedition to China 1111860, and was present at
the actions near Tangchow, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with Clasp). Served iu the Kaar war of 18,8. Served
in the Zulu war of 1879I; while commanding the Royal Artillery in South Africa he was appointed Commar.dan:
of the Lower Tugela district in Natal ; he prepared the column for the relief of Ekowe, commanded one of the two
divisions of the column in the relief of that place, and was present in the engagement at Giugindhlovu (mentioned
in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp).
