between the 23rd October 1854 and December 1855, and was present at the taking of Kertch and Kinbourn (Medal
with Clasp). Was engaged in the operations against Canton in 1856-57 on board H.M. ships Calcutta and Elk
(Medal). Served on the River Ganges as a Volunteer during the Indian Mutiny in the H.E.I. Company's gun-
boat Jumna.
485 Colonel R. Atkins served with the Suraon Field Force in 1859 and on the Nepaul Frontier in 1859-60
(Medal). Served in the Afghan war in 1879 with the Thull Chotiali and Vitakri Field Forces (Medal). Served

General Wnitlock commanding the division from 6th*Aprii 1859 to the breaking up of the force on 31st December
