Column in Bundlekund in August, September and October 1858, and also with Colonel Meade's Column in Central
India in February, March and April 1859, clearing the jungles and in the pursuit and capture of Tantia Topee
(Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, and CB). Served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 as Colonel on the
Staff Commanding Royal Engineer, and was present in the engagement at Hasheen^and at the d«*truction of
Temai — mentioned in despatches as " having commanded the Royal Engineers in an exceptionally able manner,"
and for having rendered " unfailing assistance in carrying out the many engineering operations which had to be
undertaken " (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
107 Lt.General S. M. Wiseman-Clarke served with the 93rd Highlanders the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,
including the battles of Alma and Balaklava, siege and fall of Sebastnpol, capture of Kertch and YeniKale (Medal
with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Also the Indian campaign of 1857-59, including relief of Lucknow by
Lord Clyde, battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec, pursuit of the enemy and capture of their guns at Seraighat, action
at Kallee Nuddie ; taking of Futtehghur, expedition to Mhow under Brigadier Hope, siege and capture of
Lucknow (mentioned in Sir E. Lugard'sdespatches) , and subsequent aflfairs ending in the capture of Bareilly (Medal
with two Clasps). *
110 Lt.General H. F. Davies served in the Royal Navy in the Burmese war (Medal). Also in the Baltic in the
Russian War (Medal). Served in the Zulu war of 1879 as Commandant at Conference Hill and afterwards as
Commandant of Fort Newdigate (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
^ 112 Sir Henry R. L. Newdigate landed in the Crimea with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade, and was present at the
battle of Alma (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also during the Indian campaign of 1857-58,
including the action of Cawnpore, and capture of Lucknow ; and with Ross's Camel Corps at the capture of Calpee
and operations in Central India (Brevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps). Served in the Afghan war in 1878-79
vith the Peshawur Valley Field Force in command of the 4th Eattalion of the Rifle Brigade ; commanded the
Lower Koorum Brigade from April to Aug. i£8o (CB., and Medai).
114 Lt.General T. Ross commanded a detached force on the Nepaul Frontier in 1859 ; drove the rebels from the
plains of Tilawara where there was a large bazar, aud next day attacked them in the jungle of Pipurea, the whole
rebel army in consequence retired to Botoul, where they were cut up by Sir R. Kelly — for general services on the
frontier was highly complimented by the Commander in Chief and Sir R. Kelly (Medal).
116 Lt.General Rich landed in the Crimea in 1855, served in the Trenches at the siege of Sebastopol, and was
present at its fall (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, and Turkish Medal). Served during the campaign of 1858 in
Central India under Sir Hugh Rose, including the action at Koonch, and commanded the 71st Lt. Inf. at the actions
of Muttra and Despoora (mentioned in despatches), general action of Gowlowlee, capture of Calpee, action of Morar
(mentioned), and capture of Gwalior (Medal with Clasp, CB., and Brevet of Lt.Colonel). Commanded a Field Force of
all arms in the Jungles of Central India from Nov. 1858 to May 1859 in pursuit of Tantia Topee, the Rao Sahib,
Feroze Shah, and other rebel leaders, and on the 5th April surprised and totally routed the rebels at Nainwas —
thanked \t, the Governor General in Council.
139 Lt.General Farrington served with the 29th Regiment in the Sutlej compaignof 1845-46, and was present at the
battles of Ferozeshah and Sobraon (Medal and two Clasps). Served also in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49,
including the passage of the Chenab and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two ClasDs).
113 Lt. General Meyrick served in the Crimea from 30th Dec. 1854, and was present at the siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Medal with one Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
146 Lt.General de Horsey served the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 13th Jan. 1855, including the battle of
Alma and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, Brevet of Major, 5th Classofthe Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
157 Lt.General C. Pollard served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the siege of Mooltan (wounded),
and battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857 (Medal).
158 Lt.General Macintyre served with local rank of Captain attached to the Ottoman Army in 1855-56. Joined the
Kertch expedition as a Brigade Major (Medal with Clasp for Sebastopol). Accompanied the army of Omer Pasha
to Asia Minor, and was present throughout the winter campaign there, including the battle of the Ingour, after
which battle, Captain Dymock, 95th Foot, having been killed, he was appointed Aide de Camp to the British Com-
missioner, Sir Lmtorn Simmons, in which capacity he served until April 1856, receiving warm acknowledgments
of his services from that officer on resigning tne appointment (Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie) . Pro-
ceeded to China in command of a Mountain Train Battery with the expedition in i860. Present at the defence of
Shanghae when attacked by the rebel army on the 18th 19th and 20th August i860. By a well-directed shell from
a mountain train howitzer laid by himself, he wounded Chung Wong, Commander in Chief of the rebels, in the
face, in addition to killing and wounding several of his Staff. Was senior officer of Artillery and in command of
the South Gate Post, the principal point attacked, during the defence (mentioned in despatches, Medal).
161 Sir Seymour John Blane served with the Scots Fusilier Guards throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,
including the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman (wounded) , siege and fall of Sebastopol, and sortie of the 26th Oct.
(mentioned in despatches, Medal with three Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
Served as Brigade Major to General Nicholson at the defeat of the Sealkote mutineers at Goodaspore on the 1 2th
and 16th July 1857, action at Nujjufghur, siege and assault of Delhi, — three times mentioned in despatches and
in General Orders by the Governor General (Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp).
174 Lt.General F. G. T. Deshon served with the 22nd Regt. in Scinde, and was present at the battle of
Hyderabad (Medal). He served also the campaign in the Southern Mahratta country in 1844-45, an d was present
at the investment and capture of the Forts of Panulla and Pownghur, as also in the operations against the Forts
of Munnahur and Munsontosh in the Southern Concan. Landed in the Crimea with the 48th Regt. on 21st April
1855, and served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and commanded a portion of the Regiment detached on duty
in the Dockyard from 14th January to 14th March 1856 (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and. Turkish Medal).
182 Lt.General Wombwell served with the 46th Regt. at the siege of Sebastopol in 1854-55 (Medal with Clasp, Brevet
of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
183 Lt.General C. T. Stewart served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the siege of Mooltan, and
battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). .Also in the Indian Mutiny campaign, including the battle of Budle-
keserai, and throughout the siege of Delhi (Medal with Clasp).
188 Lt.General H. F. Williams served with the 1st Battalion 60th Rifles during the second siege operations a£
Mooltan, including the siege and storm of the town, and capture of the citadel ; was afterwards present at the
battle of Goojerat, the pursuit of the Sikh Army, and the expulsion of the Affghans beyond the Khyber Pass
(Medal with two Clasps) . Also present during the operations in the Euz ofzye Country, and capture of the insur-
gent villages on the nth and 14th Dec. 1849 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the campaign of 1857 against the muti-
neers in India, including the actions on the Hindun of the 30th and 31st May, battle of Budlee ke Serai and taking
of the Heights before Delhi on 8th June, subsequent siege operations to 16th August— severe gun-shot wound and
left thigh-bone broken on 19th June (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
192 Lt.General A. C. Cooke served in the Crimea from July 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal
with Clasrj, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
193 Lt.General H. Wray was sent on special service to Japan in Dec. 1863 as Commanding Royal Engineer under
the Naval Commander in Chief Vice- Admiral Sir Augustus Kuper. Was sent by him in August 1864 to reconnoitre
the batteries in Simonosaki Straits, and was afterwards present with a Detachment of Royal Engineers in the action,
of the 5th Sept. 1864 and subsequent operations (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major).
195 Lt.General J. W. Laurie served with the 4th Regiment in the Crimean campaign from the 8th November 1854
until the evacuation ol the Crimea, and was present at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, including the repulse of
the two sorties on the advanced trenches in front of the Ovens on the 22nd and 23rd November {mentioned in
despatches), attacks on the Barrack Battery on the 18th June and on the Redan on the Sth September 1855 ; he was
wounded in December 1854, and again in March 1855 (Medal with Clasp, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the
Medjidie). Served in India during the mutiny, and was Staff Officer of a Field Force in the Rewah Kantee district
in i860 (Medal). Served during- the rebellion in the North West Territories of Canada in 1885 as Second in Com-
mand from the 1st April till the close of the rebellion, and as Commandant of the Base and Lines of Communication
