4°3 a H er Majesty's Local Indian Forces. — War Services.
1 Sir William Lockhart served with the 5th Fusiliers in Oude in December 1S5S and January 1859. Served
throughout the Bhootan campaign of 1864-66 as Adjutant 14th Bengal Lancers (Medal with Clasp). Served as Aide
de Camp to Brigadier General Merewether commanding Cavalry Brigade in the Abyssinian campaign, and was
present at Arouse and the fall of Magdala (mentioned in despatches. Medal). Served as D.A.Q.M.' General
2nd Brigade with Hazara Field Force in the Black Mountain Expedition in 186S (mentioned in despatches,
Clasp). Was present at the capture of Lambada during the Dutch war in Acheeu in 1875-77 (mentioned in des-
patches, Dutch War Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in 1879-80 as Road Commandant in the Khyber
from September to November 1370, and afterwards as Assistant Quarter Master General to Major General Roberts's
Division, and was present in the operations around Cabul in December 1879, including the investment of Sherpore
(mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp). Served with the Burmese Expedition in 1886-87 in command
of a Brigade (received the thanks of the Government of India, mentioned in despatches, KCB., and two Clasps).
Commanded the two Miranzai Expeditions in 1S91 (received the^thanks of the Government of India and of the"
Commander in Chief in India, promoted Major General for distinguished service in the field, Clasp) ; and also
commanded the Isazai Expedition in 1892. Commanded the Waziristan Field Force in 1894-95 (received the
thanks of the Government of India for the skilful manner in which he conducted the operations to a completely
successful issue, KCSI., and Clasp). Commanded the force engaged in the suppression of the rising on the
North West Frontier of India in 1897-98 (received the thanks of the Government of India, GCB.and two Clasps).

2 Sir Richard Stewart served with a party of the Mysore Silladar Horse attached to the Kurnool Movable
Column and was present at the attack on Shorapore on the 8th February 1858, on which occasion he was
dangerously wounded by two sword cuts; also commanded a detachment of the 4th Cavalry Hyderabad Contm-
gent with Brigadier Hill's Field Force in the Taptee Valley, in Berar, and in the Deccan from November 1858 till
March 1859 (Medal). Served with the Burmese Expedition in 1886-87 in command of a Brigade sent to the Ruby
Mines (received the thanks of the Governor Generalin Council, mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp')
3 Sir Robert Low served in the Sonthal campaign in 1855. Served throughout the Indian Mutiny eainpaigi

Clasps). Served with the Eusofzie Expedition in 1863 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war of 18 ,„
and was present with the expedition into the Bazar Valley (mentioned in despatches) and at the assault of Zawa'
accompanied-Sir Frederick Roberts in the march to Candahar as Chief Director of Transport, and was present at
the battle of Candahar (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp, and Bronze Decoration ). Served with
the Burmese Expedition in 1885-88 in command of a Brigade (received the thanks of the Government of India
mentioned in despatches, KCB., and Clasp). Commanded the Chitral Relief Force in 1895. This force was'
hastily mobilized to undertake the relief of the fort of Chitral, where the British Agent in Gilgit and a small force
were beleaguered by a large body of tribesmen under Umra Khan ; and, although Chitral was reached and
relieved by Lt. Colonel Kelly and his troops from Gilgit before Sir Robert Low's force could reach the place, the
relief was made practicable by the co-operation of the latter, which crossed five mountain passes, brid°-ed'two
rivers, and fought victoriously five actions with the enemy. Sir Robert received the thanks of the Government
of India, and of the Commander-in-Chief in India, was promoted to be GCB. and awarded the India Medal, 189c,
with Clasp.
6 Major General C. A. Moore commanded a detachment of the 2nd Bombay Light Cavalry at the taking of Rewal,
present at the taking of Awah ; served with the Field Force in Central India in 1858 ; present during the operations'
in the Mahee Kanta in 1858 ; and at the night attack of the Khosias at Bhyrannah and during the operations at
Nuggur Parker ; present during the operations in Kattywar, and at the taking of the Burda Hills and defeat of
the Wagheers at that place in 1859 (Medal with Clasp) . Served with the 3rd Light Cavalry during the Abyssinian
campaign of 1867-68, and commanded the Regiment at the storming and capture of Magdala (mentioned m de-
spatches, Medal).
7 Major General R. Morris served with the 2nd Dragoon Guards in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 185s,
and was present at the siege and capture of Lucknow and subsequent operations at Koorsee (Medal with Clasp) ,
Served in the Afghan war in 1880 (Medal).
3 Major General G. T. Halliday served with the Hazara Expedition in r338 (Medal with Clasp).
9 Major General G. C. Hogg served in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and was present in the engagement at
Girishk, and in the defence of Candahar including the sortieof Deh Khojah (several times mentioned in despatches
Medal).
10 Major GeneralBiscoeserved in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and was present in the engagements at Khelat-i-Ghilzi
and Sir-i-Asp (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Lt. Colonel, Medal). Served with the Miranzai Expedition in

13 Major General V. W. Tregear served in the Afghan war in 1879-80 on the Khyber line of communications
(Medal). Commanded the Lushai Expedition in 1889, and served with the Chin-Lushai Expeditionary Force in
1889-90 in command of the Chittagong Column with rank of Brigadier General (received the thanks of the Gov-
ernment of India, CB., and Medal with Clasp).
14 Major General P. W. Smith served in the campaign on the North-West Frontier of India in 1863, and was
present at the storming of Lalloo and at the capture of Uinbeyla (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war
in 1880 (Medal).
1 5 Colonel W. W. H. Scott served in the Abyssinian war in 186 ,and was present at the capture of Magdala
(mentioned in despatches, Medal). Served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 in
command of the nth Bengal Lancers, including the passage of the Swat River (mentioned in despatches^ CB. ,
and Medal with Clasp).
16 Major General Wylie served with the 7th Royal Fusiliers in the Umbeyla campaign of 1863, .and was present at
theeaptureiof the Conical Hill and the taking of Lalloo (Medal with Clasp); also served with the Bhootan
Expedition in 1865 (Clasp). Served with Che 10th Bengal Lancers throughout the Abyssinian war of i368 (Medal).

command of the 20th Bengal Infantry (mentioned in despatches), and with the Waziristan Field Force under
