War Services of General Officers of Royal Marine Forces. 402a
I Sir Howard S. Jonee served with the Baltic Expedition in 1854 (Medal). Commanded the Brigade of Royal
Marines in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present id the engagement at Tel-el-Mahuta and Mahsama, in the
two actions at Kassasin and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (twice mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp,
Khedive's Star, 2nd Class of the Medjidie. and Aide de Camp to the QueeiO.
4 General P. G. LeGrand served at the siege of Sebastopol from 1854 until its fall ; was also at the capture of
Kertch, and occupation of Yeni Kale, and at the surrender of Kinbourn (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal) .
Served in the Egyptian war of 1882 (Medal, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star).
5 Sir Henry Tuson served in China in 1858-60, and commanded a Detachment on an expedition against pirates
from 26th Aug. to 5th Sept. 1858 (mentioned in despatches), and was present at the capture and destruction of 100 junks
and 236 guns. Was also present at the attack on the Taku Forts on 25th June 1S5 a, the capture of the Peiho Ports in
i860, and subsequent operations (Medal with two Clasps). Served in the Egyptian war of 1882, and commanded the
Royal Marine Artillery in the reconnaissance in force from Alexandria on the 5th August, and was present in the
engagements at El Magfar and Tel-el-Mahuta, in the two actions at Kassasin, and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (twice
mentioned in despatches, Aide deCamp to the Queen, CB., Medal with Clasp, 3rd Class of the Medjidie. and Khedive's
Star). Served with the Soudan Expedition under Sir Gerald Graham in 1884 in command of the Royal Marines, and
was present in the engagement at El Teb (twice mentioned in despatches, 3rd Class of the Osmanieh, two Clasps).
Lieut. General Graham served with the Baltic Expeditionsin 1854 and 1855, including the destruction of tele-
graph stations on 2qth June, and the shelling a large body of troops on 1st July (Medal) . Served in the EgyptiaD
war of 1882, and was present in the engagement at Tel-el-Mahuta, in the action at Kassasin (oth September), and
at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp, 4th Class of the Osmanieh, and
Khedive's Star).
7 Lieut.General Barnes served in the operations in the Canton river in 1856-58; was in Macao Fort when attacked
byiunks on 4th January, at the destruction of war junks in Fatsham Creek, landed to destroy a village, storm
and capture of Canton (mentioned in despatches, Medal with two Clasps).

present in the engagement at El Teb (three times mentioned in despatches, promoted Major, two Clasps).

4 Lt. Colonel A. L. S. Burrowes served in the Zulu war in 1879, and was present in the engagement at Gingindhlovu
and at the relief of Ekowe (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present in the re-
connaissance in force from Alexandria on the 5th August, in the two actions at Kassasin, and at the battle of
Tel-el-Kebir (Medal -with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).

1 Colonel Crosbie served in China in H.M.S. Rodney from September 1S67 to September 1869 ; waslanded from
the-Squadron at the occupation of Yangchow in November 1868;- also served in a Battalion at the attack and
capture of three walled villages in January 1869 (mentioned in despatches). Was landed from H.M.S. Active on
the 27th November 1873, and served throughout the second phase of the Ashanti war in command of the Royal
Marines, including the battle of Amoafnl, battle of Ordahsu (slightly wounded) and capture of Coomassie (men-
tiened in despatches, Medal with Clasp). Commanded the Marines of H.M.S. Active on the expedition up the river
Congo in Augustand September 1875, and was mentioned in despatches (Brevet of Major). Promoted Captain for
