1 The Duke of Cor.naught served in the Egyptian war of 1882 in command of the 1st Brigade (the Guards), and
was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, received the thanks of both Houses of
Parliament, CB., Medal with ClasD, 2nd Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star).
2 Lord Alexander Russell served with the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade in the Kaffir war of 1S52-53 as D.A.Q.M.G.
to the istDivision, and was present at the battle of Berea — mentioned in General Orders (Medal, ar.d Brevet of
Major). Served also in the Crimea from the nth July 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and com-
manded the 1st Battalion from the 25th October 1855 until the evacuation of the Crimea (Medal with ClasD, Brevet
of Lt.Colonel, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
