1 General J. W. Smith commanded a Detachment of the 38th Regt. in co-operation with a Naval expedition
under Captain Loch in the ascent, in boats, of the river St. Juan de Nicaragua, Central America, in 1848, including
the assault and capture of the port of Serapiqui, and surrender of the Forts of Castello Viejo and St. Carlos. He
also accompanied Captain Loch to the town of Grenada, ?,nd was present at the deliberations and conclusions of a
treaty with the Nicaraguan Commissioners. Served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of
Alma and Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol, capture and occupation of the Cemetery and suburbs on the iSth June,
and was senior Officer of the 38th at the close of the war (Medal with three Clasps, Knight of the Legion of
Honor, 4th Class of the Medjidie, Turkish Medal, and CB.).
• is Major Savage served in the Kafir war in 1878 including the operations against Sekukuni (Medal with Clasp).
19 Major Bent served with the 1st Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment in the Egyptian war of 1882
and was present in the reconnaissance in force from Alexandria on the 5th August (Medal, and Khedive's Star).
Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was present at the action of Kirbekan (two Clasps). Served with
the Soudan Frontier Field Force during the operations on the Upper Nile in 1885-86.
21 Lt.Colonel Allen served with the 1st Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment in the Egyptian war of
1882, and was present in the reconnaissance in^brce from Alexandria on the 5th August (Medal, and Khedive';!
Star). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was present at the action oT Kirbekan (two Clasps).
23 Major Chesney served as Adjutant with the 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment in the Egyptian war
of 1882. and was present in the reconnaissance in force from Alexandria on the 5th August (mentioned in
despatches, Medal, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85
(Clasp).
25 Major Raitt served in the Kafir war in 1878 including the operations against Sekukuni ; served in the Zulu
war iu 1879 and in the subsequent operations against Sekukuni including the capture of the stronghold
(Medal with Clasp). Served in the Bechuanaland Expedition under Sir Charles Warren in 1005 in command
of a troop of the 3rd Mounted Rifles (Diamond Fields Horse).
26 Lt.Colonel Hore servedm the Egyptian war of 1882, first with the 1st Battalion South Staffordsnire Regiment
and afterwards with the Mounted Infantry, and was present in the reconnaissance in force from Alexandria on
the 5th August, in the engagements at El Magfar, Tel-el-Mahuta, Mahsama, and Kassasin (9th September), and at
the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star). Served in the Nile
Expedition in 1884-85 with the Mounted Infantry, and was present at the actions at Abu Klea, El Gubat, and
Metammeh (two Clasps).
27 Major Daubeney served with the Soth Regiment in tne left attack against Sekukuni in 1878, in the Column
under Colonel Rowlands on the Swazi border in 1879, and during the invasion of Zululand and the engagement
at Ulundi (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star);
also served with the Egyptian Frontier Field Force m 1885-86 as Aide de Camp to Brigadier General Butier.
Commanding ;st Brigade, and was present at the engagement at Uiniss (DSO.).
28 Major Williams served in the Zulu war in 1879, and in the subsequent operations against Sekukuni (Medal
with Clasp). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was present at the action of Kirbekan (Medal
with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star). Served with the expedition to Ashanti under Sir Francis Scott in i3Q5(Star).
32 Major Steward served in the operations of the Soudan Frontier Field Force in 1885-86 (Medal, and
Khedive's Star).
33 Major Kirkpatrick served in the Nile Expedition in 1334-85, and was present at the action of Kirbekan
(Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
34 Captain Chads served with the 1st Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment in the Egyptian war of 1882
(Medal, and Khedive's Star). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was present at the action at Kirbe-
kan (two Clasps). Served with the Soudan Frontier Field Force during the operations on the Upper Nile in
1885-86.
Si Captain Pipe-Wolferstan served with the 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment in the Egyptian war of
1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Star). Served with the Soudan Frontier Field Force during the operations on the
Upner Nile in 1885-86.
36 "Captain Sears served with the 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was
present in the reconnaissance in force from Alexandria on the 5th August (Medal, and Khedive's Star;. Served
on the Staff of the Battleford Column throughout the campaign in the North West of Canada in 1835, and was
present in the engagement at Cut Knife Hill ; commanded a scout corps in the pursuit of Big Bear (three times
mentioned in despatches, Medal).
37 Captain Bridge served with the 1st Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment in the Egyptian war of
1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Star). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was present at the action of
Kirbekan (two Clasps).
40 Captain Glover served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-35, and was present at the action of Kirbekan (Medal
with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
42 Captain Hon. J. G. R. U. Colbome served with the|Nile Expedition in 1884-S5, and was presert at the action of
Kirbekan— severely wounded (Medal with trvo Clasps, and Khedive's Star). Served with the Soudan Frontier
Field Force during the operations on the Upper Nile in 1885-86. [See also Civil Decorations for Gallantry,

43 Captain Corbett served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart
in 1897 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force as Transport Officer (Medal with Clasp).
46 Captain Billings served in the Egyptian war of 1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Star) ; also served with the Nile
Expedition in 1B84-85, and was present at the action of Kirbekan (two Clasps). Served with the Soudan Frontier
Field Force during the operations on the Upper Nile in i33s-86.
