I General Seymour served during the Crimean campaign of 1854-55 with the 68th Light Infantry, including
the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, and Turkish
Medal). Served in the Indian Mutiny campaigns of 1858-59 with the 2nd Dragoon Guards, including the action
of Nusserutpore, siege and capture of Lucknow (charger wounded}, and subsequent operations, action of Nawab
gunge (in command of three squadrons of che Regiment) , and re-occupation of Fyzabad. Commanded the Bays
throughout the Oude campaign, including the action ot Jamo (wounded), assault and capture of Birwah, and Trans-
Gograaffairs at Bungaon (Gazetted Brevet Major on 20th July 1858, frequently mentioned in despatches, Medal with
Clasp, and CB.).
* Major Douglas served in the Egyptian war of 1882 with the 7th Dragoon Guards as a volunteer, and was present
in the engagements at El Magfar and Mahsama, at the two actions at Kassasin, and at the battle of Tel-el-Eebir and
capture of Cairo (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
9 Major Dewar served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 attached to the Cavalry Brigade, and was present in
the engagements at Hasheen and Temai (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
10 Major Walker served in the Soudan Expedition in 1884 with the 19th Hussars, and was present in the en-
gagements at El Teb and Temai (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served in the Nile Expedition in
1884-85 with the 19th Hussars (Clasp).
II Major Persse served with the Dongola Expeditionary Force under Sir Herbert Kitchener in 1896, including
the engagement at Firket and the operations at Hafir (mentioned in despatches, 4th Class of the Medjidie,
Khedive's Medal with two Clasps).
14 Captain Wilberforce served in the Hazara Expedition in 1891 as Orderly Officer to Major General EUes,
Commanding the Force (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
15 Major Cockburn served with the Benin Expedition under Rear Admiral Rawson in 1897 with the Niger Coast
Protectorate Forces (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
16 Captain Smyth served with the Zhob Valley Expedition in 1890-91. Served with the Dongola Expeditionary
Force under Sir Herbert Kitchener in 1896, including the engagement at Firket and the operations at Hafir
(mentioned in despatches, 4th Class of the Medjidie, Khedive's Medal with two Clasps). Also served in the
campaign in 1898, and was present in the Cavalry reconnaissance of 4th April and at the battle of Khartoum
(slightly wounded) ; was awarded the Victoria Cross for the following act :— " At the battle of Khartoum, on the
2nd September 1898, Captiin Smyth galloped forward and attacked an Arab who had run amok among some
camp followers. Captain Smyth received the Arab's charge and killed him, being wounded with a spear n the
arm in so doing. He tlius saved the life of one at least of the camp followers."
