Served in the Afghan war in 1880 in command of the 78th Highlanders (Medal). Was actinsr Brigadier in command
of the 2nd Brigade of the Candahar Field Force from the 18th December 18S0 till the 22nd March 1881.
793 Major General D. S. Warren served in the Crimea from 10th January 1855. including the siege and fall ot
Sebastopol and assault of the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Affghan war of
1880, and was present in the affair at Mazeena, and with the Kama Expedition (mentioned in despatches, CB., and
Medal). Served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 as Assistant Adjutant General (Medal with Clasp,and Khedive's
Star).
797 Major General T. M. Warren served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58 including the operations in
Oude and on the Nepaul Frontier (Medal).
799 Major General N. F. Way served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 in command of Royal Marines, and was
present in the engagements at Hasheen and the Tofrek zereba, at that nearTofrek on the 24th March, and at
the destruction of Temai (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
800 Major General C. E. Webber served with the 21st Company Royal Engineers throughout the campaign of
1858 in Central India under Sir Hugh Rose, was present at the siege and storming of Chandairie, and was m charge
of the only successful ladder party at the escalade of Jhansie, where he was one of the oflicers who led the assault ;
also served in the campaign of 1859, and was present at the actions of the Betwa, Koonch, Goolowlee, and before
Calpree, including the capture of that place^and in the pursuit of Tantia Topee and Feroze Shah (three times
mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp, and received the thanks of the Governor of Bombay). Accompanied
Sir Garnet Wolseley to South Africa on special service in May 1879, and served to the end of the war as Assistant
Adjutant and Quarter Master General of the western lines of commanication. Served in a similar capacity in the
Transvaal during the operations against Sekukuni in 1879 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Egyptian war of
1882 as Assistant Adjutant and Quarter Master General at Head Quarters in charge of Telegraph Lines, and was
present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp, 3rd Class of the Medjidie,
and Khedive's Star) ; also served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 (Clasp).
801 Major General W. H. D. R. Welman commanded the 99th Regiment throughout the Zulu war of 1879, and
was present in the engagement at Inyezane and during the investment of Ekowe {CB., Medal with Clasp).
803 Hajor General W. E. H. West served at the blockade in the Baltic in 1854 ; was present during the opera-
tions against the Aland Islands, including the capture of an earthen battery on the 8th August, and in the action
with the forts of B^marsund on the 15 th August. In 1855 he accompanied the Baltic expedition; was in action
with steamers and a battery on 21st June, and at the bombardment of Sweaborg (Medal). Served also with the
expedition to the Baltic until the declaration of peace in 1856.
801 Major General R. Wheeler served as Interpreter to the 7th Hussars during the Indian Mutiny campaign of
1858-59, including the advance into Nepaul, attack and capture of the enemy's position and guns at Sitkaghat
(Medal). Served with the 20th Native Infantry throughout the Umbeyla campaign of 1863 (Medal with Clasp).
Served in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and took part with the Zaimusht Expedition including the assault of Zawa
(Medal).
805 Major General F. T. Whinyates served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of
Balaclava, Inkerman, and Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
806 Major General H. E. Whish served as a volunteer at the siege of Mooltan (Medal with Clasp).
807 Major General H. G.White served at the siege of Sebastopol from 21st Nov. 1854 to 10th Aug. 1855, including
the attack of the Redan on the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Servedfrom i6tn Nov. 1858
to the 16th March 1859 with the Berar Field Force, which took the field for the purpose of preventing the
rebel chiefs Tantia Topee and Feroze Shah from penetrating into the Deccan. Served with the Bechuanaland
Expedition under Sir Charles Warren in 1884-55.
803 Major General W. R. White served with the 50th Regiment in New Zealand from 15th Nov. 1863 to 2nd Oct.
1866 ; led the storming party at the assault and capture of Rangiawhia (mentioned in despatches), present at the
repulse of the enemy's attack on the Camp at Nukumaru, appointed Aide de Camp to Brigadier General Waddy
26th Jan. 1865 and served on the Staff to 7th April 1866 (Medal, and Brevet of Major). Served in the Nile Expeditioi
in 1884-85 in command of the 2nd Battalion of the Essex Regiment (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
811 Major General O. Wilkinson served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was slightly contused on the
side by a bullet at the aifair of Ramnuggur (Medal). Served with the force under Sir Sydney Cotton agaiust the
Mohraund Tribes in August 1854 (Medal with Clasp). Served throughout the Indian Mutiny of 1857-58, includ-
ing the advance on Lucknow, storm and capture of Meeansrunge (received a blow on the head from a musket),
throughout the final siege and capture of Lucknow including the repulse of the enemy's attack on the Alum-
bagh, defeat of a body of Fan»tics near Moosah Bagh, a.nd other minor cavalry skirmishes; affair of Tigree,
capture of Jugdespore, Jhitoorah, and Metahi, and other skirmishes. Served as Deputy Assistant Quarter .Master
General to the Shahabad Field Force, and was present throughout the campaign in Jugdespore, Khyinore Hills,
Palamow, and Behar, including night surprise of the enemy's camp at Tuly-a-Duhar, and affairs at' Karee Sath
and Majowleea (seven times mentioned in despatcbes, Brevet of Major, Medal with Gasp)
_ 812 Major General H. E. T. Williams served in the Burmese war from January 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
Served also in the IndianMutiny campaign in 1858-59 as Adjutant of the 3rd Madras European Regiment at the
battle of Banda, and as Acting Assistant Adjutant General to the Saugor Field Division in the action of Fun-
warree — mentioned in despatch (Medal with Clasp for Central India) .
813 Major General S. H. Williams accompanied the small force from Quilon to Cochin in Jan. 1857 t0 aid the Civil
Power.
617 Major General F. E. E. Wilson served in the Egyptian war of 1882 in command of the 2nd Battalion of the
York and Lancaster Regiment, and was present at the action at Kassasin on the 28th August (mentioned in
despatches) and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp, 3rd Class of the
Medjidie, and Khedive's Star).
820 Major General S. W. F. M. Wilson served with the 55th Regiment in the Crimea, subsequent to th3 fall of
Sebastopol, from the 25th October 1855 to the end of the Russian war. Also on the Bhootan Expedition, including
the recapture of Deivangiri in 1865 (Medal with Clasp).
821 Major General William Winson served with the Khelat-i-Ghilzie Regiment on the Peshawnr Fro 1 1 !•■ in
1855-56 and during the mutiny in 1857 (Medal). With the same Regiment in Eusofzaie uuder'Sir Sydney C^ccon
in April and May 1858. Commanded the 18th Bengal Native infantry during the operations in Bhootan in 1865,
and was present at the recapture of the Bala Pass (Medal with two Clasps).
823 Major General George Wolfe served with the 2nd Queen's Royals in the campaign of 1S60 in China, including
the capture of the Taku Forts and the surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).

828 Major General G. F. Worsley served in the Persian Expedition of 1856-57 (Medal with Clasp).
829 Major General H. Y. Wortham served in the Crimean campaign from July 1855, including the siege and fall of
f ebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in India with the Okamundel Field Force in 1859, and '
was present at the attack on the Fort of Beyt, siege and Fall of Dwarka. Served with the expedition to China in
i860, and was present at Sinho, Tangku, and capture of Taku Forts (Medal with Clasp).
836 Major General J. W. Younghusband served in the Affghan campaign of 1842, and was present at the second
attack on Hykulzye, and at Candahar under General Nott. Served in the Sind campaign of 1843, and was present
at the battle of Hyderabad (Medal) ; also in the hill campaign under Sir Charles Napier in 18^ 5. Commanded a detach-
ment of Upper Sind Police in the attack and defeat of the Mundranees in 1847 ; commanded a separate column, com-
posed of 6th Punjaub Police Battalion, detachments 2nd Punjaub Cavalry, and Mounted Police in the expedition
against the Omerzye Wuzeeries :n 1852 ; commanded 2nd and 6th Punjaub Police Battalions in the expedition
against the Sheoranies in 1853 ; commanded 6th Police Battalion in the expedition against the Kusseranies in 1853
(Medal with Clasp).
