battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, Victoria Cross,
Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal) : received the ITiC "for having, on the night of the nth May
1855, during a most determined sortie (from Sebastopol), boldly charged the enemy, with a small force from a
battery of which they had obtained possession in great numbers, thereby saving the works from falling into the
hands of the enemy. He was conspicuous on this occasion for his gallantry and daring conduct."
353 Major General P. Hammersley served in the Trenches at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and assault of the
18th June (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, Sardinian Medal, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
356 Major General G. W. Hanson served with the Bombay Column in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was
present at the siege and surrender of Mooltan (Medal with Clasp) . Present at the action of Ambapawnee.
357 Major General J. Hanwell served in the Crimeau campaign from May 1855 including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
358 Major General P. H. Harcourt seri-ed throughout the Central India campaign of 1857-58 (mentioned in
despatches, Medal with Clasp).
359 Major General H. A. Hare served during the campaign in Bengal from 16th October 1857 to 7th August 1859.
360 Major General J. T. Harris served in the 2nd European Bengal Fasihers with the force before Delhi in
1857, was present at the battle of Budleekeserai and subsequent operations before Delhi, and severely wounded
through the thigh in the Subzee Mundee on the 27th June; served subsequently in Oude in 1858-59 (Medal with
Clasp). Served with the 15th Punjaub Infantry in the campaign of i860 in China, including the action of Sinho,
taking of Tangku, and actions of Chankiawhan and Paliachow, and advance on Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
361 Major GeneralJ. G. Harkness served with the 55th Regiment throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,
including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, sortie of 26th Oct. 1854, and assault of the
Redan on 8th Sept. (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Afghan
war of 1878-80, commanded the column which cleared the entrance to the Kyber Pass, and was present with the
• Kama Expedition (Medal).
3C - Major General E. Harnett served with the 1 ith Hussars in the Crimea from 14th July 1355, including the battle
of Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal witn Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
363 Major General 1ST. H. Harris served in the Crimean campaign from Dec. 1854, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol, in the Trenches with the siege train, and a,t the bombardments of 9th April, 6th and 17th June
(Medal with Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Afghan war in 1879-80,
and was present in the engagements at Shahjui and Ahmed Kheyl (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
364 Major General T. M. Harris served with the Persian expedition of 1856-57, including the storm and
capture of Reshir surrender of Bushire.and bombardment of Mohurnrah (Medal with Clasp). Served in
suppression of the Indian mutiny at the siege and capture of Kotah and pursuit, second taking of Chundaree,
action of Kotahkeserai and pursuit, taking of Gwalior (mentioned in despatches), bombardment and capture of
Powree, actions of Sindwaho and Kurai, surprise and pursuit of the rebels at Koondrye — severely wounded
Medal with Clasp).
3I " Major General W. D. Harris served the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the action of Ramnuggur,
arfsage of the Chenab, and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat, and subsequent pursuit (Medal witn two
Clasps). Served as 2nd in command of the 2nd Bengal European Fusiliers throughout the siege of Delhi in 1857,
including the actions in front, storming of the breach, Cashmere bastion, and final capture of the city (mentioned
in despatches, Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major).
366 Major General E. Harrison served in the Sutle] campaign in 1846, and was present at the battle of Sobraon
Medal).
367 Major General F. C. Hassard served the Crimean campaign from Nov. 1854, including the siege aud fall of
Sobastopol, sortie of nth May, aud expedition to Kertch and Yenikale (Medal with Clasps, Brevet of Major, Sar-
dinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie). Served as Commanding Royal Engineer in the Kafir
war of 1877-8, and in the Zulu of 1379 (Medal with Clasp).
363 Major General Douglas Hastings served with the 78th Highlanders in the Persian war in 1857, including
night attack and battle of Kooshab and bombardment of Mohumrah (Medal with Clasp). Served also in Bengal
in the several actions leading to and ending m the relief of the Residency at Lucknow — severely wounded (Medal
with Clasp and a year's service). Served with the 6th Regt. in the Hazara campaign of 1868 (Medal with Clasp).
36v Major General P. M.Haultain served in the Southern Mahratta campaign 1844-45, present at the taking of the
heights of and surrender of Budderghur, at an outpost affair West of Punulla, at the storm and capture of the forts
of Punulla and Pownghur, the investment and occupation of the forts of Muuohur and Munsuntosghur, and at
an attack on the gateway of Munohur, at which place was very severely and dangerously 'wounded.
370 Major General G. H. Hawes served the Sntlej campaign of 1845-46 with the 9th Regiment, including the
battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshah, and Sobraon (Medal and two Clasps). Also in the Crimea from the 27th Nov. 1854,
including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and assault ou the batteries on the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, Brevet
of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
371 Major General W. H. Hawes served during the Sonthal campaign in 1S55. Served also throughout the Indian
Mutiny campaigns of 1857-59 and was present during the siege of Jjucsnow in 1857 (severely wounded in two
places), battle of Cawnpore, and action of Khankur (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp, and a year's
service).
372 Major General A. C. Hawkins served in the Crimean campaign from March 1855, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol, and was present at the bombardments of the 9th April, and 17th June, 17th August, and 8th Sep-
tenioer (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, CJB., Medal with Clasp, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th
Class of the Medjidie) .
373 Major General E. L. Hawkins served with the Turkish Contingent during the Crimean campaign in 1855-56
(Turkish Medal). Served in the Indian Mutiny in 1857-58, including the battle of Cawnpore on the 6th Dec. 1857,
action of Shumshabad capture of Lucknow, and capture of Calpee (Medal with two Clasps).
37+ Major General J. C. Hay served with the 92nd Highlanders in the Afghm war of 1878-80, and was present in
the engagement at Charasiah on 6th October, 1879, and in the subsequent occupation of Cabul (mentioned in
despatches, Medal with Clasp). Served in the Boer war of 1881, and was present in the engagement at Majuba
Hill (twice severely wounded).
576 Major General H. B. Hayward served with the 45th Regiment in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868, and was
present at the storming and capture of Magdala (Medal).
377 Major General A. H. Heath served the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the battles of Sadoolapore,
Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps;. Siege of Delhi in 1857 (mentioned in despatch with
"especial approbation and thanks for zeal, ability, and coolness in situations of great danger," Medalwith
Clasp).
378 Major General J. W. Henderson-Cleland served in the Egyptian war of 1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Star).
380 Major General M. A. H. J. Heriot served on the China Expedition of 1857-5S, including the blockade of the
Canton river, the landing before, storm and capture of the city; accompanied the expedition to the North and
was wounded at the attack on the forts at the Peiho on 25th June 1859. Served in the campaign of i860 with the
Chinese Coolie Corps, and took part in the expedition to the North and the operations there, including the action
of Sinho and the storming of Tangku and of the North Taku Forts (Medal with three Clasps).
381 Major General B. B. Herrick served with the Baltic Expeditions in 1854 and 1855 (Medal).
382 Major General J. J. Heywood served with the 1st Roya' nthe Crimean campaign from the 1st June 1855,
including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medalwith Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served as Commandant f
H.M. Hospital Ship Victor Emanuel off the Gold Coast during the Ashanti war in 1874 (Medal).
381 Major General Eustace Hill served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1858-59, and was present at the actions
of Nawabgunge, Bara Banki, and Selimpore, and at the capture of Fort Amethee (Medal).
387 Major General John Hills served "witn the Persian "Expeditionary Force in 1857, and was present at the
capture of Mohumra (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Abyssinian Expeditionary Force as Field Engineer at
Koomeylee, the large watering post at the foot of the mountains, constructing wells and other works there; also
served as Field Engineer at Senafe (mentioned in despatches, Medal). Served in the Afghan war i.i 1879-80, and
