1 Sir George Graaves served at Peshawar during the Indian Mutiny in 1857-58. Served as Deputy Assistant
Adjutant General in the Eusofzye Expedition of 1858 under Sir Sydney Cotton (mentioned in despatches. Medal
with Clasp). Served in the war of New Zealand as D. A. Quarter Master General from January 1862 to January
1866. Surveyed the Waikato River under circumstances of great difficulty and danger, and piloted up it the gun-
boats Avon and Pioneer. Was present at nearly the whole of the engagements, and was repeatedly mentioned in
despatches— mentioned as being " always conspicuous for energy and daring " (Brevets of Major and Lt. Colonel,
and Medal). Served as Chief of the Staff of the Ashanti Expedition of 1873-74, and was present at the battle of
Amoaful. battle of Ordahsu, and capture of Coomassie. including the minor engagements on the road. Mentioned
in despatches by Sir Garnet Wolseley in the following terms :— " Colonel Greaves assumed the duties of Chief of
the Staff on the 17th December. His great knowledge of the army, his experience as a Staff Officer, the zeal and
ability he brings to bear upon his work mark him out as eminently qualified for the post he occupied. He has
rendered the most valuable assistance" (Medal with C.asp, and CB.). Served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 as
Chief of the Start to Sir Gerald Graham (mentioned in despatches by Lord Wolseley in the following terms: —
" Sir G. Graham speaks in high terms of the manner in which Major General Sir George Greaves, KCM&. CB.,
performed the duties of Chief of the Staff to his force. I do not believe there is any officer who has a more exten-
sive knowledge of the working of the army than Sir George Greaves, nor one who can use his great staff and
administrative experience to better purpose" (KCB., Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
13 J-it.Colonel Roupell served in the Afghan war in 1879 (Medal). Served in the Mahsood Wuzeeree Expedition
in 1881 as Assistant Adjutant General (mentioned in despatches).
15 Lt. Colonel Harris served with the 70th Regiment in the Afghan wa' in 1878-79 with the Thull Chotiali
Field Force under Major General Biddalph (Medal). Also served in the Mahsood Wuzeeree Expedition in 1881
as Superintendent of Army Signalling to Brigadier General Gordon's Column (mentioned in despatches).
19 Major Frodsham served in the expedition to the Soudan in 1885 as Acting Adjutant to the 2nd Battalion of
the East Surrey Regiment, and was present in the engagement at Hasheen, at the attack on the convoy on the 26th
March, and in the subsequent advance to Temai (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).

Regiment, and was present in the engagement at Hasheen, at the attack on the Convoy on the 26th March, and in
subsequent advance to Temai (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served in the campaign on the North West
Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in 1897 as Deputy Assistant Adjutant General 2nd Brigade Staff
with the Malakand Field Force as Aide de Camp to the General Officer in command of the force (mentioned in
despatches 1 ; aho with the TJtman Kbel Column of the Malakand Field Force as Deputy Assistant Adjutant
General 2nd Brigade (mentioned in despatches, Medal with two Clasps). Seived in the campaign on the North
West Frontier of India m 1897-98 as Orderly Officer to the Geueral Officer commanding ihe Malakand Field
Force, including tie relief ot Chakdara, the operations in the SwatVallfy and action of Landakai, the operations
in Bajaour and actions at Nawagai and in the Mamund Valley , also served as Deputy Assistnnt Adiutant
General 2nd Brigf.de of the Dtman Khel Column of the Malakand Field Force and Buner Field Force (three
times mentioned in despatches, Medal with two Clasps).
2d Lieut. Hart served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 in command of the Maxim
gun detachment of the 1st Battalion East Surrey Regiment (Medal with Clasp). Served in the campaign on the
Northwest Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in 1897 as Orderly Officer to the Brigadier General
command ng the 1st Brigade, including the forcing of tne Sampagha Pass, the operations in the Waran Valley
on the 9th December, and the operations in the Mastura Valley with the passage of the Snppri Pass (two Clasps).
28 Captains White and Ellis served in the expedition to the Soudan in 1885 with the 2nd Battalion of the East
Surrey Regiment, and were present in the engagement at Hasheen, at the attack on the Convoy on the 26th March,
and in the subsequent advance to Temai (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
29 Lieut. Fagan served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 on the Transport service
(Medal wilh Clasp). Served in the campaign on the North West Fiontier of India in 1897 as Transport Officer
in the Peshawar Column under Brigadier General Hammond (two Clasps).
31 Lt.Colonel Mitford served with the Soudan Frontier Field Force in 18S6-SS, and was present in the engagement
at Sarras (mentioned in despatches, Medal, 4th Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star); also served in the
operations on the Soudan frontier in 1888 including the engagement at Gemaizah (Clasp), and again in 1889 in-
cluding the engagements at Arguin and Toski (mentioned in despatches, 4th Class of the Osmanieh, and Clasp).
Served with the Dongola Expeditionary Force under Sir Herbert Kitchener in 1896 as Brigade Major 2nd Brigade,
including the engagement at Firket and the operations at Hafir (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major,
Khedive's Medal with two Clasps).
35 Captain Kenneth M. P. Grant served in the expedition to the Soudan in 1885 with the 2nd Battalion of the East
Surrey Regiment, and was present at the attack on tne convoy on the 26th Maich and in the subsequent advance
on Temai (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
