44 Lieut. E. Christian served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lock-
hart in 1897-9S with the Malakand Field Force as Assistant Superintendent of Signalling, and was present at the
defence of the Malakand, the relief of Chakdara Fort, and the engagement at the Ublan Pass, and with the Tirah
Expeditionary Force as Brigade Signalling Officer 3rd Brigade, including the operations against the Chamkanis
and in the Bara Valley (mentioned in despatches, Medal with three Clasps).
4j Lieut. Alfoi'd served with the Dongola Expeditionary Force under Sir Herbert Kitchener in 1896 with the ist
Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment including the operations at Hafir (Khedive's Medal with Clasp).
46 Lieut. Hon. M. P. Macnaghten served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir Wil-
liam Lockhart. in 1897-98 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force with the ist Battalion P^oyal Scots Fusiliers, and
was present in the engagement at the Ublan Pass on the 27th August and in the operations against the Cham-
kanis and in the Bara Valley (Medal with two Clasps).
