1 Lt. Colonel Aylmer served in the Ashanti war from the 30th November 1S73 ; commanded the Cape Coast Volun-
teers of Wood's Regiment, with the advanced guard under Major Furze during the march to the Prah; and after-
wards commanded the post of Essiaman on the Line of Communications (Medal with Clasp).
6 Major Bethune served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present in the operations around Cabul in
December 1879 (Medal with Clasp). Served with the 92nd Highlanders in the Boer war of 1881.
7 Major Higga served in the Nile Expedition in 1885 with the Light Camel Regiment (Medal with Clasp, and
Khedive's Star).
3 Captain Dallas served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in
1897 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force as Aide de Camp to Major General W. P. Symons, Commanding 1st
Division (mentioned in despatches, Medal with two Clasps).
10 Lieuis. Dixon and Tuson served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 (Medal with
Clasp).
11 Lord Fincastle served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in
1897-98 as Aide de Camp to Sir Bind .n Blood, Commanding Malakand Field Force, and was present in the en-
gagement at ^Landakai ; also with the Buner Field Force as Aide de Camp to Sir Bindon Blood (three times
mentioned in despatches, TJiI, and Medal with two Clasps); was awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous
bravery during the operations on the North West Frontier of India in 1897, as here recorded: " Durin"- the
fighting at Nawa Xili, in Upper Swat, on the 17th August 1897, Lt.Colonei R. B. Adams proceeded with L?euts.
H. L. S. MacLean and Viscount Fincastle, and five men of the Guides, under a very heavy and close fire, to the"
rescue of Lieut. R. T. Greaves, Lancashire Fusiliers, who was lying disabled by a bullet wound and surrounded
by the enemy's swordsmen. In bringing him under cover he (Lieut. Greaves) was struck by a bullet and killed
Lieut. MacLean was mortally wounded— whilst the horses of Lt.Colonei Adams and Lieut. Viscount Fincastle were
shot, as well as two troop horses."
12 Lieut. Hart served in the Zulu war in 1879 (Medal with Clasp).
