1 f-ir Frederick Marshall served in the Crimea from istto 26th Sept. 1855, as Aide de Camp to Sir James Scarlett
(Medal with Clasp for Sebastopcl, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Zulu warof 1879 i n command of the Cavalry
Brigade, and after the dissolution of the Brigade commanded the advanced posts on the Lines of Communication
(Medal with Clasp, and CMG.).
* L'-.Colonel Burn-Murdoch served iu the Nile Expedition in 1S84-S5 with the Royal Dragoons' Detachment of the
Camel Corps ; took part in the action of Abu Klea, and commanded the Detachment in the engagement of El Gubat
(Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star). Served in ihe Dongola Expedition under Sir Herbeit Kitchener
in 1896 ; in command of three squadrons of Egyptian cavalry defeated a Dervish force near Akasheh, 1st May ;
commanded the Desert Column, composed of ail arms, in the battle at Firket, 7th June (promoted Miraili on the
held) ; commanded the mounted troops in the pursuit which followed and at the capture of Suarda 8th June, in the
engagement at Ha.ffir, and at the capture of Dongola (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Khedive's
Medal with two Clasps).
' Major Burn served with the Hazara Expedition in 188S as Orderly Officer to Major General M'Queen, Com-
manding the Hazara Field Force (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
