295 Surgeon Major J. J. Henry served in the Indian campaign of 1857-59, arid was present at the action of
Khujwah. relief of Luck-now by Lord Clyde, action at <'awnpore on 6th Dec. 1857, capture of Luckuow, the Rohilcund
campaign, attack on the Fort of Rooyah. action of Allygunge, attack and capture of Bareilly, and with the Saugor
Field Division in various operations in Bundlecund (Medal with two Clasps) . Served in the New Zealand war of
1863-65, and was present at the attack on the Gate Pah, and at Te Ran ga (mentioned in despatches), also in several
skirmishes (Medal).
297 Brigade Surgeon W. R. G. Hinds served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 (Medal).
298 Brigade Surgeon Edmond Hoile served with the Royal Engineers throughout the campaign of i860 in the
north of China, including the action of Sinho, taking of Tangku, storm and capture of the inner Taku Forts, and
surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
299 Surgeon Major L. G. Hooper served in the Crimea from 22nd Sept. to Nov. 1854, when he was sent to Scutari
in charge of wounded, but returned to the Crimea the following spring, and was present at the siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
^ Brigade Surgeon E. Hopkins served in the Indian Mutiny campaign, including the action of Doadpore and
taking of Fort Mudjedea (Medal). Served throughout the Dmbeyla campaign of 1863, including the night attack of
22nd October, and attack on the Eagle's Nest Picquet. (mentioned' in despatches. Medal with Clasp). Served in the
Afghan war of 1878-80, accompanied Sir Frederick Roberts in the march to Candahar, and was present at the battle
of Candahar (Medal with Clasp, and Bronze Decoration).
301 Brigade Surgeon I. Hoysted served with the Military Train, acting as Cavalry, in India in the Shahabad
campaign in 1858, and was present in actions on the 14th, 17th, 20th, 21st and 23rd October (Medal). Served with the
Burmese Expedition in 1885-S7 (Medal with Clasp).
302 Deputy Surgeon General J. M. Hyde served with the 14th Regiment in the Crimea from the 19th Jan. to 2nd
Sept. 1855, including the siege of Sebastopol and assault of the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
303 Brigade Surgeon J. A. Illingworth served with the 57th Regiment during the New Zealand war of 1860-G1
(Medal ) . Served in the 7th Fusiliers with the Eusofzie Field Force during the war on the North-West Frontier of
India in 1863-64 (Medal).
305 Brigade Surgeon H. Jagoe served in the Afghan war in 1878 (Medal). Served in the Zulu war in 1879 (Medal
with Clasp).
3116 Brigade Surgeon W. Jay served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 (Medal).
307 Brigade Surgeon B. J. Jazdowski served in the campaign on the North-West Frontier of India in 1863-64, and
was present at the capture of the Umbeyla Pass (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Egyptian war of 1882 (Medal, and
Khedive's Star). Served with the Beehuanaland Expedition under Sir Charles Warren in 1884-85.
309 Brigade Surgeon J. C. Johnston served with the 9th Regiment in the Crimea from Jan. 1855, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and assault of the Batteries on the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
310 Brigade Surgeon M. G. Jones served with the 51st Light Infantry in the Jowaki campaign in 1877 (Medal with
Clasp) Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 (Medal).
3,1 Surgeon Major E. Y. Kellett served in the Crimea from the 1st October 1854 to the 20th May 1856, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and in medical charge of detachments from Balaklava that took part in the battle on
the 25th October 1854. Was in medical charge of Russian wounded prisoners after Inkerman, and of the General
Field and Cholera Hospitals of the 3rd Division (Medal with two Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Served in the New
Zealand war in 1863-65, and was in medical charge of the 14th Regiment at the battle of Rangiriri (mentioned in
despatches, Medal) .
313 Brigade Surgeon W. R. Kerans served with the 99th Regiment in the China Expedition of i860 (Medal).
Served in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the storming and capture 01 the Taku Forts (Medal with
CIosp, and Khedive's Star).
315 Surgeon Major Thomas Kingston served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 with No. 1 Field Hospital, and
was present in the engagement at Hasheen, at that near Tofrek on the 24th March, and at the destruction of
Temai (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
316 Brigade Surgeon Henry Lamb served with the Waikato Field Force during the New Zealand war in 1863-
65 and was present at Paterangi, Waiari, and the subsequent operations of that campaign (Medal). Served in the
Zulu war in 1879 (Medal).
317 Brigade Surgeon B. Lane served with the 80th Regiment in the Burmese war of 1852-53, including the attack
on the outpost of Tomboo and several operations in its vicinity (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Noticed in General
Orders by the Commander in Chief in India of 10th November 1S53 for assiduous attention to the sick on an
occasion when the whole detachment at Tomboo were prostrated by fever. Also during the suppression of the
Indian mutiny in 1858 and present at theaction on the banks of the Jumna on the 5th March (Medal).
316 Brigade Surgeon J. Langdon served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 (Medal).
319 Brieade Surgeon H. J. H. Lawrence served the Crimean campaign from Nov. 1854, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Soudan campaign in 1S85 with the
Grenadier Guards (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
320 Surgeon Major W. Leach served in medical charge of the Left Wing 71st Highlanders during the Central Indian
campaign under Sir John Michel, and was present at the battles of Beora, Mongroulie, Sindwayu, and affair of
Karrai (Medal).
322 Surgeon Major A. H.L'Estrange served in the operations in the Malay Peninsula in 1875-76 (Me^al with Clasp).
323 Surgeon Major F. A. L'Estrange served in the Ashanti war in 1873-74 in medical charge of the 1st West
India Regiment, and was present at the battle of Amoaful and the capture of Coomassie ; afterwards served as
Transport Medical Officer for the embarkation of the sick and wounded (Medal with Clasp). Served with the
Nile Expedition in 1S84-85 (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
324 Surgeon Major R. C. Lever served in the expedition against the Mohmund Tribes on the Punjab frontier
in 1863-64 with the 7th Hussars (Medal with Clasp).
326 Deputy Surgeon General J. R. M.Lewis served with the Rifle Brigade in the expedition against the insurgent
Boers, north of the Orange river, and was present at the action of Boem Plaats on 29th August 1848.
327 Brigade Surgeon E. H. Lloyd served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 in charge of the Field Hospital at
Kaibar (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
32s Brigade Surgeon A. Long served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 (Medal).
329 Surgeon Major A. E. T. Longhurst served in the Crimean campaign of 1854-55, including the siege of Sebas-
topol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the Indian campaign of 1858-59, and was present in
the actions at Jugdespore (mentioned in despatches for " untiring zeal and courageous attention throughout tha
day") and Toolsepore (Medal).
330 Brigade Surgeon E. L. Low, prior to entering the Army, served in the Royal Navy from the 14th February
1856 to the 25th November 1858. Served through the campaign of i860 in North China (Medal). Also through
the Ashanti war of 1873-74 (Medal). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and present at the capture of the Peiwar
Kotal in December 1878, the engagement at Charasiab, and in the various operations around Cabul from October
to December 1879, including the investment of Sherpore (Medal with tbree Clasps).
mi B rigade Surgeon J. J. M'Carthy served throughout the campaign in China in i36o (Medal with two Clasps).
Also in the operations against the Taeping rebels in 1862. and was appointed a Knight of the Legion of Honor " as
a mark of His Imperial Majesty's approbation of his services, while under fire, to French soldiers wounded in
China, and especially to the late Admiral Protet at the moment when he was mortally wounded." Also served in
the Afghan war in 1878-79 (Medal).
333 b rigade Sargeon D. C. M'Fall served as Acting Assistant Surgeon on board H.M. s.s. Jamet Watt during the
Baltic Expedition of 1854-55 (Medal).
331 Surgeon Major H. J. M'Laughlin served in the Boer war of 188 1 and took part in the defence of Standerton.
Servedwith the Nile Expedition of 1884-85 (Medal with Clasp and Khedive's Star).
335 Surgeon Major E. L. M'Sheehy served in medical charge of the 1st Dragoon Guards in China throughout the
campaign of i860, including the action of Sinho, the fall of the Taku Forts, the actions of the 18th and 21st Septem-
