War Services of the Officers on the Unemployed Supernumerary List. 59^n
327 Major General W. F. Bartleman served with the 13th Light Infantry in the Indian Mutiny campaign in
1858, and was present at the actions of Almorah on the 17th and 25th April, and at the storming and capture
of the fortofNuggar (Medal). Served during a part of the Cossiah rebellion, an d commanded a Company of the
43rd Bengal N.I. at the attack and capture of the stockaded village of Moonsowpoonje in the Jynteah Hills on the
22nd March 1862.
388 Major General H. Chapman was at Meean Meer on the outbreak of the mutiny in 1857 ; served with the 1st
Bengal European Fusiliers in the actions ofNarnoul, Gungeree, Pattialee, and Mynpooree ; commanded a detach-
ment of Alexander's Horse in several minor affairs in the Btawah district in 1858, actions of Oreyah (charger twice
wounded), and Dewsa ; pnrsuit of the rebels through Rajpootana and Central India ; Bundlecund campaign of
1859-60 (mentioned in despatches, Medal). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present in the engage-
ment at Baghao (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt. Colonel, and Medal).
329 Major General R. H. Inglis served with the Bhootan Expedition in 1865-66 (Medal with Clasp). Served in
the Afghan war in 1879 (Medal).
330 Major General H. St. G. Tucker served with the 19th Punjaub Infantry in the campaign of i860 in China (Medal).
331 Major General W. A. Franks was present with the Head Quarters of the 12th Bengal Native Infantry when
it mutinied at Nowgong on the 10th June 1857. He served subsequently throughout the mutiny campaign (Medal)..
Served in the Afghan war in 1878-79 with the Peshawur Valley Field Force, including the second expedition
into the Bazar Valley (Medal).
33J Major General H. K. Bushe served with the Belgaum Field Force in 1857-58, and was present at the
surrender and occupation of the fortress of Shorapore (Medal).
333 Major General F, Beeching served with the field force under Major Hawks at Keonghut in 1868 for the-
suppression of a rebellion amongst the Hill Tribes of the Cuttack Tributary Mahals.
334 Major General W. Howey served with the 32nd Light Infantry during the Indian Mutiny in 1858-59, and was
present at the capture of the fort of Tyroul, action of Jugdespore, surrender of the forts of Ahmetie and Shunker-
pore, and pursuit of Beni Madho (Medal).
335 Major General G. R. Hennessy served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857 with the 93rd Highlanders, and
was present m the engagements at Bunthera, Maharajgunge, and Alumbagh, and at the relief of Lucknow under
Lord Clyde. Served in the 75th Regiment in the force under Sir James Outram, and was present in the
action at Guillie and throughout the occupation of the Alumbagh, and took part in various actions, including
those of 12th January (wounded) and 16th January 1858 (Medal with Clasp for the relief of Lucknow). Com-
manded the Humeerpore Military Police Battalion in the Bundelcund campaign in 1859-60, and was engaged
in several affairs with the rebels (repeatedly thanked by the Government of India, the Government of the
North-West Provinces, and the Commander in Chief in India). Commanded the 15th Sikhs in the Afghan warof
1878-80, and was present with Sir Donald Stewart's Division in the advance to and occupation of Candahar, and
in the engagements at Ahmed Kheyl and Urzoo near Ghuznee (mentioned in despatches) ; accompanied Sir
Frederick Roberts in the march to Candahar in August 1880, and took Dart in the reconnaissance of the 31st
August and the battle of Candahar (twice mentioned in despatches, Medal with two Clasps, and Bronze Deco-
ration) . Served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 in commandof the 15th Bengal Infantry, and was present in the
engagements at Hasheen and the Tofrek zereba and at the destruction of Temai (mentioned in despatches, CB.>
Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
336 Major General J. G. Campbell served with 3rd Bengal Europeans during the Indian Mutinies of 1857-58, in-
cluding theoperations at Shereghur Ghat in May 1858, and with the column from Agra towards Gwalior in June
1858 (Medal). Served with the 30th Punjaub Infantry in the Bhootan campaign of 1864-65, and was present at
the captures of Ohamoorchi, Bala, and Nagoh (Medal with Clasp).
337 Major General A. Battye served with the 1st Bengal European Fusiliers in Oude in 1858, and was present at
the siege and capture of Lucknow, and actions of Uttereah, Bhumoreghat, and Kintoor (Medal with Clasp).
Served in the campaign on the North-West Frontier of India in 1864, and was present in the affair at Shubkudder
(Medal with Clasp) ; also served in the Looshai Expedition in 1871-72 (mentioned in despatches, Clasp). Served
in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and took part in the expedition into the Bazar Valley under Lieut. General Maude
(mentioned in despatches), and in the advance to Cabul under Brigadier General Gough (mentioned in des-
patches) ; accompanied Sir Frederick Roberts in the march to Candahar, and was present at the battle of
Candahar — wounded (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt. Colonel, CB., Medal with three Clasps, and Bronze-

338 Major General J. M.Boyd served in the Abyssinian war in 1 S68 (Medal). Served in the Afghan war in 1880, and
took part in the march to Candahar with the force under Major General Phayre (mentioned in despatches, Medal)-
339 Major General F. M. Birch served in the Indian Mutiny campaign of 1857, and was presets at the action of
Chinhu, throughout the defence of the Residency of Lucknow (as Aide de Camp to Brigadier Inglis from 2nd
July to 25th Sept. 1857) being engaged in three sorties and commanded a party of the 84th Foot in repulse of a
grand attack on the 18th August and subsequently regained possession of the breach (twice wounded, mentioned
in despatches, and thanked by the Governor General), battle of Cawnpore on 6th December, and capture of
Hurrah (Medal with Clasp, a year's service, and Brevet of Major). Served in the campaign on the North-West

lar Cavalry, including the siege and capture of Delhi, battle of Agra (wounded in the face), relief of Lucknow by
Lord Clyde, battle of Cawnpore 6th Dec. 1857, siege and capture of Lucknow, and many minor affairs; Oude
campaign of 1858 (mentioned in despatches, Medal with three Clasps).
