ing skirmish at Lubwas. Repelled attack at Ki-
jembo. Was present at the capture of Kabagambi.
Afterwards in Command at Mruli. Mentioned in

in Chitral, 1895. — With the Relief Force. Present at
the storming of the Malakand Pass. In the action

Brev. of Lt.-Col. Medal with clasp. On the 2nd
December, 1891, Capt. Aylmer (now Col.), during the
Hunza Nagar Expedition was the 407th man to win
the IDC It was awarded for his "Magnificent
gallantry at the storming of the inner gate, where
he placed the gun-cotton. Though badly wounded
in three places, twice in the right arm, he fired nine-
teen rounds from his revolver, killing many of the
enemy almost hand to hand, and remaining fighting
and encouraging his men, until he fainted from loss
of blood."

Laings Nek (6 to 9 June). Took part in the opera-

was awarded the Victoria Cross for the following act
of courage: — "At Colenso, on the 15th Dec, 1899,
the wounded of the 14th and 66th Batteries, Royal
Field .Artille}', were lying in an advanced donga
close in the rear of the guns without any Medical
Offr. to attend to them, and when a message was
sent back asking for assistance, Maj. W. Babtie,
R.A.M.C., rode up under a heavy rifle fire, his pony
being hit three times. When he arrived at the donga,
where the wounded were lying in sheltered corners,
he attended to them all, going from place to place
exposed to the heavy rifle fire which greeted rxnvone-
