333 Brigade Surgeon Osven Owen served in the field with the 50th Regiment during the New Zealand war in
1865-66 (Medal). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present at the attack and capture of Ali Musjid
(Medal with Clasp).
356 Surgeon Major R. C. Parkinson served in the Zulu war in 1879 (Medal). Served in the Boer war in i83i as
Senior Medical Officer at the defence of Standerton.
3 ~*~ Brigade Surgeon L. O. Patterson served in medical charge of a field force in 1S56 against the rebel Kareens in
Burmah, and was present in six engagements. Served in India during the mutiny in 1858-59; was in medical
charge of the Arrah Field Force from June to Oct. 1858, and present in action at Sirthooa (wounled), Julpoora,
Brahminagunge, Rampore, Perowra, Jumaon, Karrisath, and Jugde3pore ; volunteered to overtake Lt. Colonel Sir
H. Havelock and take medical charge of his Cavalry ; present with them at the charge and action at Neenadee,
present again with the field force in the last action at Mahoolan, and in several other minor skirmishes (three
times mentioned in despatches, Medal).
362 Brigade Surgeon C. C. Read served with the Grenadier Guards in the Crimean campaign from the 7th Nov.
1854, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Soudan
campaign in 1885 (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
363 Surgeon Major A. Reid served with the Royals in the Crimea from the 15th July 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
365 Surgeon Major W. .T. RendeH sewed with the 41st and 55th Regiments in the Crimea from 10th March 1855,
including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in India during the
mutiny of 1857-59; present in medical charge of two Batteries of Royal Artillery at the action of Secundra
(Medal). Served with the 55th Regiment on the Bhootan Expedition in 1865 (Medal with Clasp).
366 Brigade Surgeon D. Renton served in the Zulu war in 1879 (Medal!.
369 Brigade Surgeon A. B. Robinson served with the 17th Lancers in the Zulu war of 1879, and was present in the
engagement at Zuinguin Mountain and Dlundi (Medal with Clasp).
371 Surgeon Major E. A. H. Roe served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, was present in the engagements of Girishk
and Maiwand, and took part in the defence of Candahar (Medal).
372 Brigade Surgeon W. F. Ruttledge served 'in the Afghan war of 1878-80 (Medal).
375 Deputy Inspector General G. Saunders served in medical charge of the 47th Regiment the Eastern campaign
of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma, Inkerman, capture of Balaklava, siege of Sebastopol, and sortie on the
26th Oct. (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Was Senior Medical Officer at Hong Kong during the
epidemic of fever in 1865 (mentioned in despatches, CS.).
376 Deputy Surgeon General J. E. Scott served with the Rifle Brigade in the Kaffir war of 1852-53, including the
expedition beyond the Kei in Aug. 1852, and the final clearing of the Waterkloof (Medal/. Embarked with
the Rifle Brigade and served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, — from March 1855 as Surgeon of the
41st Regiment (Medal with four Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
378 Brigade Surgeon J. A. Shaw served in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir
Medal with Clasp,and Khedive's Star). Also served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 (mentioned in despatches, Clasp).
380 Surgeon Major G. F. Hume Spry served with the 2nd Life Guards in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was pre-
sent in the engagements at El Magfar and Mahsama, in the two actions at Kassasin, and at the battle of Tel-el-
Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
381 Brigade Surgeon P. W. Stafford served in the Ashanti war in 1873-74, and was present at the battle of
Amoaful (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Zulu war of 1879, and commanded the stretcher bearers in the
action of Ulundi (mentioned in despatches) ; served afterwards in the Transvaal during the operations in
1879-80 (Medal with Clasp). Also served in the Boer war of 1881 with the Natal Field Force.
386 Brigade Surgeon T. A. Thornhill served with the 42nd Highlanders in the Indian campaign of 1857-38, includ-
ing the action of Khodagunj, siege and fall of Lucknow, and assault of the Martiniere and Banks' Bungalow, attack
on the Fort of Rooyah, action at Allygunge, attack and capture of Bareilly — slightly wounded (Medal with Clasp).
388 Brigade Surgeon T. C. Tolmie served in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir
(Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star); also served with the Soudan Frontier Field Force in 1885-86 as Secretary
to the Principal Medical Officer, and was present in the engagement at Giniss.
392 Surgeon Major T. J. Tucker was present at the mutiny of the three Native Regiments at Dinapore on 25th
July 1857, at the defeat of the rebels under Koer Singh and capture of Jugdespore in August, advance to Lucknow
in Feb. and March 1858, including the actions of Chanda, Umeerpoor, Sultanpore, and Duraha, the siege aad
capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp) .
393 Brigade Surgeon A. Turner served in the Ashanti war of 1873-74 (Medal).
397 Surgeon Major E. C. R. Ward served in the Zulu war in 1879, ana i n ' ne subsequent operations against
Sekukuni including the storming of the stronghold (Medal with Clasp). Also served in the Boer war of 1881. and was
present in the engagement at Madder Spruit — slightly wounded (mentioned in despatches).
398 Brigade Surgeon W. P. Ward served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the affair of
M'Kenzie's Farm, battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, repulse of the sortie
on 26th Oct. 1854, and assault on the Redan on the 8th September ; also present at the bombardment and surrender
of Kinbourn (Medal with four Clasps, Knight of the Legion oi Honor, and Turkish Medal).
401 Brigade Surgeon J. H. C. Whipple served with the 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards in the Egyptian war
of 1882, and was present in the engagement at Tel-el-Mahuta and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with
Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
405 Major P. Connolly served in the Afghan war of 1873-80 (Medal).
107 Major j. E. V. Foss served in the Egyptian war of 1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Star).
408 Major A. Harding served in the Zulu war in 1S79 in medical charge of the 57th Foot, and was present in
t he engagement at Gingindhlovu and at the relief of Ekowe (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Boer war of
1 881 in medical charge of Fort Marabastadt from December 1 88c till March 1881 (mentioned in despatches) ; sub-
sequently at Pretoria and Standerton until the withdrawal of the British troops. Served in the Egyptian war of
1882 with No. 2 Bearer Company, and was present at the action at Kassasin on the 9th September and at the
battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, took
part with the Desert Column under Sir Herbert Stewart, and was present at the actions at Abu Klea and Abu
Kru, and in the reconnaissance before Metammeh (mentioned in despatches, two Clasps).
4J9 Major A. H. Morgan served in the Egyptian war of 1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Star). Served with
the expedition up the Gambia in 1891-92 (Medal with Clasp); in the operations against the Sofas, West Coast of
Africa, in 1893-94 (mentioned in despatches) ; and with the expedition to the Gambia against Fodey Silah in 1894
(mentioned in despatches, DSO., and Clasp).
410 Major S. J. W. Hayman served with the Burmese Expedition in 1886-88 (Medal with two Clasps).

Berkshire Regiment, and was present in the reconnaissance to Hasheen on the 1st February, in the engagements
at Hasheen and the Tofrek zereba, and in the subsequent advance to and burning of Temai (Medal with two
Clasps, and Khedive's Star). Served in the operations ofthe Soudan Frontier Field Force in 1885-86.
