3 Captain Bell served in the South African war in 1899-1900 with the Ladysinith Relief Force, and was present

8 Captain N. D. Garrett served in the Indian Mutiny campaign (Medal).
8 t Captain Gilson served in the South African war in 1899-1901. Joined General Gatacre's force and took pprt
in the reconnaissances against the Stormberg position and the advance into the Orange Free State, and was present
at the action of Bethulie Bridge ; occupied on lines of communication south of Bloemfontein after its capture.
Took part in the march to Pretoria with General Ian Hamilton's force. Took part in the actions at Houtnek,
Welkom Farm, Zand River, Lindley, and Doornkop; the taking of Johannesburg and Pretoria; the actions at
Diamond Hill and Heidelberg, and the march into Orange River Colony under Sir A. Hunter ; the pursuit of De Wet
under Brig. Gen. Broadwood, and after under Maj. Gen. Hart; the action at Krugersdorp and Potchefstroom Rail-
way. Acted as Transport Officer at Potchefstroom, in charge of convoy to Ventersdorp. Commanded a company
during the action at Vlakfontein — dangerously wounded, being struck by four bullets (mentioned in despatches,
and commended for behaviour at Vlakfontein).
9 Captain C. Fane served in South African war in 1899-1902, as Adjutant to the 12th Lancers June 1901 to 31st May
1902 ; took part in operations in Transvaal 30th Nov. 1900 to July 1901 ; and in Cape Colony July 1901 to 31st May
1902 (mentioned in despatches, DSO., Medal with six Clasps, King's Medal with two Clasps).
9f Captain Dalby served with the Mounted Infantry in tbe South African war, and took part in operations in
the Transvaal, Mar. 1901 to Jan. 1902 — severely wounded (Queen's Medal with three Clasps), and in Somaliland.

Quarter Master General's Department, including six months at Kertch (4th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
Served in the Indian Mutiny campaign, commanded the Mountain Train R.F.H. at Kotah, and accompanied the-
assaulting Column with two howitzers at the fall of the town ; was afterwards in Colonel Parke's Flying Column,
and was present at the engagement at Oodeypore (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
10 t Captain Marten served in the occupation of Crete in 1898 with the 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry. Served
in the South African war in 1899-1900 with the 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry, and was present in the advance
on Kimberley and the engagements at Modder River, Magersfontein — wounded ; in the operations in the Orange Free-
State, Feb. to May 1900, including the action at Paardeberg ; afterwards in command of No. 3 Armoured Train
(mentioned in despatches).
11 Captain N. M. Hemming served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William
Lockhart in 1797-98 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force with the Maler Kotla Imperial Service Sappers (Medal
with two Clasps).
