85 Captain Foster served in the South African war in 1899-1900 with the 2nd Battalion Middlesex Regiment as
Regimental Transport Officer from 1st January to 12th May, and was present iu the operations on the Upper Tugela
in January, 190c including the action at Spion Kop and at the Relief of Ladj'smith.
86 Captain MacEwan served in the South African war in 1899-1901 as Adjutant 2nd Battalion Middlesex Regi-
ment, and took part in the Relief of Ladysmith, includingtbe operations of 17th to 24th January 00, and the action
at Spion Kop ; operations of the 5th to 7th February, and the action at Vaal Krantz ; on Tugela Heights, 14th to
27th February 1900, and the action at Pieter's Hill ; in the Transvaal, June 1900 ; in Natal, March to June 1900,
and the action at Laing's Nek ; in the Transvaal east of Pretoria, July to 29th November 1900; and in Orange
River Colrny, June 1900 (rneutioned in despatches, Medal with rive Clasps).
8; Captain Herbert Stepney served in the Isazai Expedition in 1892. Served with the Ohitral Relief Force under
Sir Robert Low in 1895 with the 1st Battalion King's Royal Rifles from the 17th April to the close of the operations
(Medal with Clasp). Served in the South African war in 1899-1902, and was present at the actions of Rietfontein.
and Lombard's Kop ; defence of Ladysmith; and action at Laing's Nek.
88 Captain Ma.tcham served in the South African war with the 2nd Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, and took
part in the operations in Cape Colony, south of Orange River, 1900, including the action at Colesbe r s ; in Orange
River Colony. May and June 1900, including the actions at Bethlehem and Wittebergen ; and in the Transvaal,
west of Pretoria, August-November 1900. Raised and commanded small scouting Jorce called "Matcham's
Horse " (mentioned in despatches, DSO.).
M> Captain Tucker served with the Cross River and Central Division Expeditions (Degama), in 1898, with the
Niger Coast Protectorate Force. Served in the South African war in 1899-1902 with the 1st Battalion Durham
Light Infantry with the Ladysmith Relief Force, and was present at the battle of Colenso, and in the operations
on the Tugela of 12th January to 6th February 1900 including the engagement at Vaal Krantz, and of 14th to 27th.
February 1900 and the relief of Ladysmith ; took part in the operations in the Transvaal and Orange Free State as
Adjutant and Quarter Master of Imperial Irregular Corps Depot in Maritzburg (Medal with four Clasps, King's
Medal with two Clasps).
90 Capt.iin de Berry served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lcckhart in
1897-98 with tue 2nd Battalion Highland Light Infantry, and took part in the operations of the Malakand and
Buner Field Forces including the forcing of the Tanga Pass (Medal with Clasp). Served in the South African war
in 1899-1900 as Staff Officer to the Commandant of a Colonial Defence Area. Afterwards served as Staff Officer,
No. i Martial Law Area, Cape Colony District.
91 Captain I. R. I. F. Forbes served in the South African war with the Gordon Highlanders in 1899-1900, and
took part in the operations in Natal in 1S99, including the action at Elandslaagte ; and in the defence of Ladysmith
(Medal with two Clasps).
92 Captain Herbert A. Kennedy served in the South African war in 1899-1902 with the 2nd Battalion Royal
Irish Rifles.
93 Captain T. Carson served in the South African war in 1901 as Adjutant of the 5th Battalion Royal Irish
Rides, and took part in the operations in Orange River Colony, April 1901 to 31st May 1902 (Medal with two<
Chisps).
91 Captain Wingfield Digby served in the South African war, and took part in the relict' of Ladysmith. including
the operations 00 Tugela Heights, 14th and 27th Feb. 1900— wounded, and the action at Pieter's Hill ; in the-
operations in Northern Natal, including the action at Laing's Nek; and the operations in the Transvaal, east of
Yretoria, July to 29th Nov. 1900 (Medal with five Clasps)
95 Captain A. A. Dorrien-Smith served in the South African war in 1899-1900 on Special Service with the
Rhodosian Field Force (mentioned in despatches, DUO.).
96 Ca itain Rattigan served with the 2nd Batta'ion King sOwn Scottish Borderers with the Suakin Field Force
in December 1888 during the investment of Suakin, and was present at the engagement at Gemaizeh (.Medal with
Clasp and Khedive's Star). Took part in operations on the Soudan Frontier in 1899. Served with the Chitral
Relief Fore? uuder Sir Robert Low iu 1895 with the 2nd Battalion Kings Own Scottish B irderers as Regimental
Transport Officer, including the capture of Malakand Pass, the passage of the Swat River and the engagement
at Panjkora (Medal with Clasp).
W Captain Peyton served in Egyptian Expedition in 1882, and took part in the defence of Alexandria ; was
present at th e occupation of Kafr Dowar and the surrender of Damietta (Medal, Bronzei Star). Served in thc-
Soudan Expedition, and was present at the battle of Suakin (Clasp).
98 Captain Wilfred Harry Dent served in the operations in the Kachim Hills, Burmab in 1892-1893 in the In-
telligence Denartment (dangerouly wounded). Served with the China Expeditionary Force in 1900 (mentioned
in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
99 Captain Thackeray served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 on Signalling duty
(Medal with Clasp).
100 Captain L. Partridge served in the South African war in 1899-1902 — slightly wounded ; took part in operations
in the Transvaal May and July 1901 ; in Orange River Colony Feb. 1901 jto April 1902 ; on the iululand Frontier
of Natal in Sept. and Oct. 1901 ; and in Cape Colony Feb. 1901 (Medal with three Clasps).
l" 1 Captain Wm. J. Ludd served in the Tirah campaign 1897-1898 and was present at the capture of the Sam-
pagha and ArhangaPasses ; reconnaisance of the Saran Sar aud action of November 9th, 1897; Dwatoi opera-
tions and action November 24th, 1897; Bazar Valley, December 1897 ; Shinkamar, January 1898 (Medal with two
Clasps).
