Majors Retired on Full or Retired Pay or on a Pension. — War Services. T425
commanded a successful ambuscade against rebel natives on the 18th May 1863 (thanked by General Cameron), led
the advance party at the storming of the rebel positions at Kaitikara (mentioned in despatches), was Garrison Adju-
tant Taaranaki district, from June 1863 to Jan. 1865, and present, at the action of Pontoko, capture of rebel positions
at Mataitawa and Kaitake, and various minor affairs (repeatedly mentioned in despatches, Medal).
25 Major R. A. Brutton served with the combined force before Sebastopol during the siege in 1854-55, an< i with
with the expedition to Kertch and Yeni Kale (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal) .
25f Major H. E. Buchanan served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and took part in the two expeditions into the
Bazar Valley and in the engagement at Darunta Pass (Medal). Served throughout the Hazara campaign in 1888 as
Adjutant to the 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (Medal with Clasp).
26 Major W. P. Burton was present at the destruction of vessels and vast quantities of stores at Brahistadt in
the Gulf of Bothnia on the 30th May 1854, and at tTleaborg on the 1st and 2nd June, and in the boats at the attack
on Gamla Carleby, on the 7th June ; also present at the operations against Bomarsund in August 1854. Served with
the Baltic Expedition in 1855, and was at the bombardment of Sweaborg, and emploj'ed in the rocket-boats on the
nights of the 9th and 10th August (Medal).
26f Major W. N. Campbell served with the Burmese Expedition in i886-37 (mentioned in despatches, Medal with
Clasp).
27 Major Bowman served in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned
(in despatches Medal, with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).

39 Major Copeman served in the South African war in 1899-1902 with the Burma Mounted Infantry in operations
in Orange Free State Irom Feb. to May 1900, including actions at Diiefontein, Houtcek, Vet River, and Zand
River; in the Transvaal May and June 1900. including actions near Johannesburg, Pretoria, and at Diamond
Hill; in Orange River Colony and Cape Colony between 30th Nov. 1900 and 31st May 1902. Commanded the
Burma Mounted Infantry from 1st April to 5th Nov. 1900, and the 7th Corps Mounted Infantry from 6th Nov.
1900 to 16th Jan. 1901. Served with the 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment from Toth Jan. to 31st May 1902. Severely
wounded at Tabaksberg 9th Jan. iqoi (Medal with five Clasps, King's Medal with two Clasps).
39 t Major D. C. Courtney served in the Zulu war of 1879, and was in Ekowe during the investment (mentioned
in despatches, Meda.1 with Clasp). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was present at the action at
Kirbekan (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
40 Major W. F. J. Cowan embarked for the Gold Coast with the 2nd Battalion 23rd Fusiliers, and served in the
second phase of the Ashanti war in 1874, including the battle of Amoaful, taking of Becquah, battle of Ordahsu
and capture of Coomassie (Medal and Clasp).
40 1- Major A. P. Crawley served with the 3rd Battalion 60th Rifles in the Zulu war of 1879, and was present at the
action of Gingindhlovu and relief of Ekowe (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 (Medal
with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
4 1 Major C. W. Crosse served in the Boer war of 1881 with the Inniskilling Dragoons. Served with the Bechuana-
and Expedition under Sir Charles Warren in 1884-85.

42 The Hon. T. R. Brand served in South African war in 1900-02. Took part in operations in the Transvaal Dec.
1900 to 31 May 02 ; operations in Orange River Colony 30 Nov. to Dec. 00 (Medal with three Clasps, Medal with two
Clasps).
42 t Major N. B. Dalby served as acting Quarter Master of the R.M. Brigade in the Crimea during the siege of
Sebastopol in 1854 (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
43 Major J. W. Daniell served in the Burmese war of 1852-53, and was present at the relief of the garrison of Pegu
and in the different engagements in the vicinity; also accompanied the Martaban Column (Medal with Clasp for
Pegu). Served throughout the Indian Mutiny campaign of 1857-59, including the battle of Budleekeserai, siege of
Delhi with repulse of sorties on the 9th and 12th June, actions in rear of the Camp on the 19th and 20th June,
repulse of sorties on 23rd June, 9th and 14th July 1857 (severely wounded). Also present at the siege and capture
of Lucknowin March 1858, including the actions of the 6th 7th nth 16th and 17th March; afterwards served in
the action of Barree, and throughout the campaign in Oude (Medal with two Clasps; .
