022 Colonel W. S. Langley served throughout the Abyssinian campaign from the 13th Dec. 1867 as Adjutant
to Lt.Colorel Wallace, and was present at the fall of Magdala (Medal). He served as Staff Officer of a column
under Colonel Wallace at various periods during the advance on Magdala; as Acting Brigade Major of the
Brigade under Brigadier AVilby, after the capture of Magdala, during the illness of the Brigade Major; was
appointed Staff Officer of the 3rd Column on the commencement of the march down country, and served as such
and as Assistant Quarter Master General till it was broken up previous to embarkation.
623 Colonel E. H. Langmore served with the force under General Wheeler in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49
and was present at the capture of the two Sikh Forts, Ramnuggur and Muraree (Medal). Formed one of the Gar-
rison which defended the Residency of Lucknow from the 30th June to the 22nd Nov. 1857, and commanded a:\
important outpost during that period, and was mentioned in Major General Inglis' despatch in the following terms : —
" Lieut. Langmore with the remnant of his corps (the 71st Native Infantry) held a very exposed position between
the Hospital and the Water Gate. This gallant and deserving young soldier and his men were entirely without
shelter from the weather both by night and day." He was afterwards present with Lord Clyde's force which drove
the rebel Gwalior Contingent from Cawnpore (Medal with Clasp, a year's service, and Brevet of Major) -
625 Colonel H. Langtry served with the 3rd Dragoon Guards in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868, and was
present at the storming and capture of Magdala (Medal). Served with the 15th Hussars in the Candahar Column
in the Afghan war of 1878-80, including the advance to Khslat-i-Ghilzai ; commanded a detached squadron of
his Regiment at the affair in the Ghlo Pass, 4th January 1879; also served with the Thull-Chotiali Field Force
under Brigadier General Biddulph, and accompanied Major General Phayre in his march to Candahar (Medal).
Served in the Boer war of i83i with the 15th Hussar3.
. 626 Colonel W. W. Lawrence served in the Transport Department throughout the Zulu war of 1879, and was present
in the action of Gingindhlovu (Medal with Clasp). Served with the 18th Roval Irish in the Afghan war in 1880
