1377 General Officers Retired on Full or Retired Pay or on a Pension. — War Services.
782 Major General H. C. Vibart served in the Crimea from 16th Feb. 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol,
and assault on the Cemetery on the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
783 Major General T. B. Verner served in the Afghan war of 1887-80, and was present in the engagements at Ahmed
Khoyl and Urzoo near Ghuznee (Medal with Clasp). Served in the campaign in the Soudan under Sir Herbert
Kitchener in 1898 in command of the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, and was present at the battle of the
Atbnra — wounded (mentioned in despatches, CB. British Medal, and Khedive's Medal with Clasp).
784 Major General H. F. Waddington served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present during the first
Biege operations before Mooltan, including the repulse of the enemy's night attack on the British Camp at Muttee
Thai (Medal with one Clasp). Received the gracious approbation of the Queen for services performed in India in
2857-58, for having as Deputy Commissioner of Mundlah, acted with much judgment in opposing the rebels in the
Mundlah and Seonee districts, and for having been present in several engagements (Medal).
788 Major General W, N. Waller served in India in 1857-58, and was present in the actions of Secundra, Chanda,
and Sultanpore, siege and capture of Lucknow, relief of Azimghur, and capture of Jugdespore (three times men-
tioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
789 Major General R. A. Walters served with the Kurnool Movable Column and Saugor Field Division, and was
present at a skirmish with the rebels at Seehora on the 2nd March 1858 — severe wound by a musket-ball on the
thigh (Medal with Clasp).
790 Major General W.J. Ward served the Gwalior campaign and was twice wounded at the battle of Punniar on 29th
Dec. 1S43 (Bronze Star) . Served also in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the 1st and 2nd siege opera-
tions before and surrender of Mooltan, action of Soorghkoond.and battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
Accompanied the force under Sir Neville Chamberlain in the operations against the Mahsood Wuzeerees in April
and May i860, and was present at Pallaseen, the forcing of the Burrara Pass, and the advance to Kaneegorum
(Medal withClasn).
792 Major General T. S. Warden served the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present at the siege and sur-
render of Mooltan, including the attack on the suburbs on the 27th December, storm of the city breach, and capture
of the town — severely wounded (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1856-57, and
was present at the landing at Hallilah Bay, the surrender of Bushire, the forced march on Borazjoon and occupa-
tion of the enemy's entrenched camp there ; also with the rear guard under Brigadier Honner when attacked by
the Persian Army on the night of the 7th February, and at the battle of Kooshab on the following morning (Medal
with Clasp). Served in 1858 with Brigadier Parke's Column in pursuit of the rebels under Tantia Topee, Rao
Saheb, and the Nawab of Banda, and was present at the action of Oodipore (Medal) .
793 Major General W. E. Warrand served in the Indian Mutiny campaign and was severely wounded at the siege
of Delhi — arm amputated (Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major).
794 Major General A. E. Warren served with the 82nd Regiment in the Crimea from the 2nd Sept. 1855, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Also in the Indian campaign of 1857-59,
and was present at the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, defeat of the Gwalior Contingent at Cawnpore, action of
Khodagunge, and occupation of Futtehghur, — acting successively as Orderly Officer to Brigadier Russell, Colonel
Biddulph, Colonel Hale, and Sir John Inglis; served the Rohilcund campaign, including the defence of the
Jail and subsequent operations at Shahjehanpore, and actions of Khankur and Bunkagaon (Medal with Clasp).
Served in the Afghan war in 1880 in command of the 78th Highlanders (Medal). Was acting Brigadier in command
of the 2nd Brigade of the Candahar Field Force from the 18th December 1880 till the 22nd March 1881.
795 Major General D. S. Warren served in the Crimea from 10th January 1855, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol and assault oftheiSth June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Affghan war of 1880,
and was present in the affair at Mazeena, and with the Kama Expedition (mentioned in despatches, CB., and Medal).
Served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 as Assistant Adjutant General (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
797 Major General T. M. Warren served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58 including the operations in
Oude and on the Nepaul Frontier (Medal) .
708 Major General A. G. Wavell served in the Zulu war in 1879 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the South
African war in 1899-1900^ command of the 15th Infantry Brigade ; took part in the operations in the Orange Free
State, Feb. to May 1900, including the actions at Karree Siding, Vet River, aud Zand River ; and in the Transvaal
in June 1900 (mentioned in despatches, CB., .Medal with three Clasps).
799 Major General N. F. Way served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 in command of Royal Marines, and was
present in the engagements at Hasheen and the Tofrek zereba, at that nearTofrek on the 24th March, and at
the destruction of Teinai (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
8,3 Major General W. H. H. West served at the blockade in the Baltic in 1854 ; was present during the opera-
tions against the Aland Islands, including the capture of an earthen battery on the 8th August, and in the action
with the forts of Bomarsund on the 15th August. In 1855 he accompanied the Baltic expedition; was in action
with steamers and a battery on 21st June, and at the bombardment of Sweaborg (Medal)- Served also with the
expedition to the Baltic until the declaration of peace in 1856.
S04 Major General R. Wheeler served as Interpreter to the 7th Hussars during the Indian Mutiny campaign 01
1858-59, including the advance into Nepaul, attack and capture of the enemy's position and guns at Sitkaghat
(Medal). Served with the 20th Native Infantry throughout the Umbeyla campaign of 1863 (Medal with Clasp).
Served in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and took part with the Zaimusht Expedition including the assault of Zawa
(Medal).
805 Major General R. Whigham served with the 42nd Highlanders in the Crimea from the 2nd Dec. 1854, includ-
ing the expedition to Kerteh, siege and fall of Sebastopol, aud assault of the outworks on 18th June (Medal with
Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
806 Major General F. T. Whinyates served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of
Balaclava, Inkerman, and Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
807 MajorGeneral H. G. White served at the siege of Sebastopol from 2istNov. 1854 to 10th Aug. 1855, including
the attack of the Redan on the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal) . Served from 16th Nov. 1858
to the 16th March 1859 with the Berar Field Force, which took the field for the purpose of preventing the
rebel chiefs Tantia Topee and Feroze Shah from penetrating into the Deccan. Sewed with the Bechuanaland
Exueditior* under Sir Charles Warren in 1884-S5.
80 Major General William Winson served with the Khelat-i-Ghilzie Regiment on the Peshawur Frontier in
1855-56 and during the mutiny in 1857 (Medal). With the same Regiment in Eusofzaie under'Sir Sydney Cotton
in .April and May 1858. Commanded the 18th Bengal Native Infantry during the operations in Bhootanin 1865,
and was present at the recapture of the Bala Pass (Medal with two Clasps).
823 Major General George Wolfe served with the 2nd Queen's Royals in the campaign of i860 in China, including
the capture of the Taku Forts and the surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
824 Major General C. S. Woodcock served in the Sutlej campaign in 1846, including the battle of Sobraon (Medal).
1,25 MajorGeneral R. R. Woodhouse served in the Persian war in 1856-57 (Medal).
S28 Maior General G. F. Worsley served in the Persian Expedition of 1856-57 (Medal with Clasp).
829 Major General H. Y. Wortha'm served in the Crimean campaign from July 1855, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol ( Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in India with the Okamundel Field Force in 1859, and
was present at the attack on the Fort of Beyt, siege and Fall of Dwarka. Served with the expedition to China in
i860, and was present at Sinho, Tangku, and capture of Taku Forts (Medal with Clasp).
837 Major General B. F. Heysham served in the Abyssinian Campaign in 1867-68 ; deputed to visit Red Sea Ports
to ascertain what supplies, if any, could be obtained, and gain any information likely to be useful should the cam-
paign be prolonged ; highly commended for services in this connection. Executive Commissariat Officer at
-rfellary during great famine in 1876 received special thanks of Major General Commanding.
837f 'Major General J. H. Laye served wth the 90th Light Infantry in the Gaika war of 1378, and was present in
the operations in the Waterkloof and Pc-rie Bush, and acted as Staff Officer to Col. Palmer's Column (mentioned
in despatches). Served in Wood's Flying Column throughout the Zulu war of 1879, and was present in the
engagements at Zungin Nek, Kambula Hill, and Ulundi (mentioned in desnatches, Brevet of Major, Medalwith
Clasp).
