Jan. to the 22nd Sept. 1855, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, repulse of
the sortie of 26th October, assaults of the Redan on the 18th June, and 8th Sept. — severely wounded, and mentioned
in despatches (Medal with three Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal). Served also on the
Bhootan Expedition, including recapture of Dewangiri in 1865 (Medal with Clasp).
412 Major General A. S. Hunter served in the Crimean campaign from May 1855, including the siege and fall ot
Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal) . Also served in the field during New Zealand war in 1867
{Medal).
♦1* Major General A. R. E. Hutchinson served throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the pas-
sage of the Chenab and battle of Goojerat (Medal with Clasp). Served as Assistant Political Officer with the Ner-
budda Field Force in the operations against Dhar in 1857. Commanded a force of two guns, a troop of Cavalry, and
two Companies of Inlantry in operations against the rebel Rajah of Amghera j destroyed the hill fort of Lall Ghur
â– and captured the Rajah. Served as Political Officer with the force under General Michel in August 1858, and was
pre3ent at the action near Rajhghur (Medal, Brevet of Major, several times mentioned in despatches).
422 Major General J. Jago-Trelawny commanded the 2nd Battalion Highland Light Infantry in the Egyptian war
of 1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Star).
423 Major General E. R. James served at the siege of Sebastopol from Feb. 1855 until taken prisoner of war on
and July (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Was attached to the Turco-Russian
Boundary Commissions in Bessarabia and Asia in 1856-57.
427 Major General C. Vernon Jenkins served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857 (Medal). Also served in the
•China war in 1858-59 (Medal).
428 Sir Francis H. Jenkins served with the 4th Sikh Infantry at the siege and assault of Delhi -severely
wounded (Medal with Cla3p). Commanded the 4th Punjab Infantry in the expedition against the Cabool Kheyl
Wuzeerees in 1859; present at the action of Maidani. Com'mandeda wing of the 4th Sikh Infantry in the expedition
against the Mahsood Wuzeerees in i860 ; and present at the action of Palasin, and at the forcing of Barrara Pass.
Commanded the Corps of Guides in the Umbeyla Expedition in 1863 ; present at the retaking of the Crag Piquet,
and the action at the Conical Hill (Medal with two Clasps). Commanded the troops engaged at the attack of the
villages in the Utman Kheyl Hills on the 21st March 187S. Commanded the Corps of Guides in the Afghan war cf
3878-80, and was present at the capture of Ali Musjid and at the engagements around Cabul in December 1879, and
at Charasiah (CB., Aide de Camp to the Queen, Medal with two Clasps).
434 Major General H. L. Jones served in suppression of the Indian Mutiny in 1857-58, including the battle of
Agra (Medal).
437 Major General W. C. Justice served with the 75th Regiment during the Indian campaign of 1857, and was
present at the siege of Delhi from 23rd June (in command of the Light Company from 13th Sept.), storm and capture
of the city (Medal with Clasp).
433 Major General F. Karslake was present with the 83rd Regiment at the siege of Kotah and its capture by assault,
affair at Sanganeer, and defeat of the Gwalior rebels at Kotaria (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Boer war of
1881 with the Natal Field Force.
444 Major General A. A. A. Kinloch served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master
General, and was present at the attack and capture of AIL Musjid, with the expeditions into the Bazar Valley under
Lieut. General Maude (mentioned in despatches) , and in the advance to Cabul under Brigadier General Charles Gough
{mentioned in despatches, Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Medal with two Clasps). Served with the Chitral
Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 in command of the 1st Brigade (received the thanks of the Govern-
ment of India, Medal with rlasp).
415 Major General W. H. Knight landed with the 48th Regiment in the Crimea on the 21st April 1855, and served
at the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
446 Major General C.B. Knowles served with the 77th Regiment in the Crimea from the nth July 1855, including
tbo siege and fall of Sebastopol, and was wounded atthe assault of the Redan on the 8th September ( Medal with
Clasp, and Tarkish Medal). Commanded the 67th Regiment throughout the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was
present in the engagements at Charasiah on 6th October 1S79 (mentioned in despatches) and in the operations
around Cabul m December 1879, including the engagement at the Asmai Heights on 14th December — mentioned
in despatches (CB., Medal with two Clasps).
417 Sir C. B. Knowles served in the Crimean war in 1855 and was present at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and
the assault of the Redan of 8th Sept. — wounded (Medal with Clasp, Turkish Medal). Served in the Afghan war
in 1878-80 in command of the 67th Foot and was present at tne battle of Charasiah, the affair at Doaba, the
operations round Kabul, and the retirement on Sherpur (twice mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with two
Clasps).
450 Major General C. P. Lane served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the passage of the Chenab,
action of Ramnuggur, and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat. (Medal with two Clasps). Indian Mutiny cam-
paign in 1858, including the siege and capture of Lucknow, and capture of Pellalpore (mentioned in despatches,
Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
451 Major General C. S. Lane served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58, including the siege and capture
of Delhi, actions of Bolundshur, Allyghur, and Agra, relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, and battle of Cawnpore on
6th Dec. 1857 (Medal with two Clasps). Served with the Bhootan Expedition in 1863 including the capture of
Dewangiri (Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in 1878-79 (Medal).
456 Maior General H. H. Lee served in the Abyssinian campaign as Assistant Field Engineer at Zoulla during the lat-
ter months of the campaign, and carried out successfully many important works there (mentioned in despatches,
Medal).
458 Major General R. T. Leigh served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battle of Ferozeshah
Medal). Present at several operations against the rebels in Sumbulpore in 1857-58 (Medal).
460 Major General J. F. Lester served in the campaign in the Southern Mahratta Country in 1844-45.
161 Major General Edmund L'Estrange served with the Bombay Column in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and
was present at the siege and surrender of Mooltan (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Persian Expedition in
1856-57 (Medal with Clasp).
4£3 Major General H. Lock served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1858-59 with the Saugur Field Division
{Medal with Clasp).
470 Major General B. Lovett served with the Jowaki Afreedee Expedition in 1878 (Medal with Clasp). Served in
the Afghan war in 1878-79, and was present at the attack and capture of Ali Musjid (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal
with Clasp). He also served with the Hazara Expedition in 1888 as Commanding Royal Engineer (.CB., and
Clasp).
474 Major General F. P. Luard served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58 in Rajpootana and Central
India, and was present, as a volunteer gunner, at the defence of Fort Neemuch (mentioned in despatches) ;
attached to the 14th Dragoons at the capture of Chandaree and Jhansi ; and as acting Aide de Camp to Sir Hugh
Rose at the actions of Koouch, Muttra, Gowlowlee, and Calpee, including the previous atfair of outposts on 20th
May 1858 (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp). Served the campaign of i860 in China, and was present
in Fane's Horse at the capture of the Taku Forts, at the actions of Sinho, Chan-kia-Wang, and Palikao (where
he was Orderly Officer for the day to Brigadier Pattle, commanding the Cavalry Brigade, and was slightly
wounded), and at the entry into Pekin (mentioned in despatches, Medal with two Ciasps).
475 Major General W . W. A. Lukin served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma,
Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, in the Trenches with the siege train, and at the bombard-
ments of 9th April, 6th and 17th June, 17th August, and 8th September (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major,
Medal with four Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Was
selected to be sent home in charge of Trophies from Sebastopol, and had the honor of presenting them to Her
Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness Prince Albert in the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich.
4 ^ 7 Major General Donald Macintyre served with the 66th Goorkhaswith both expeditions of 1852, under Sir
Colin Campbell, against the Hill Tribes on the Peshawur frontier, including the destruction of the fortified village
of Pranghur and action at Ishkakot. Served also with the Expeditionary Force against the Boree Afreedees in
November 1853. Also served with the 66th Goorkhas in the expedition under Sir Nevill Chamberlain to Koorum
