29 Sir A. E. H. Anson served in the Crimean campaign from May to September 1855, including the siege of
Sebastopol, in the Trenches with the siege train, and at the bombardments of 6th and 17th June (Medal with Clasp,
5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish. Medal).
20 Major-General F. E. Appleyard served with the 80th Regiment in the Burmese war of 1852 (Medal with Clasp for
Pegu), and was present at the capture of Martaban, operations before Rangoon on the 12th, 13th, and 14th April,
and capture of the great Dagon Pagoda with the storming party ; also at the capture of Prome. Served in the
Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the Royal Fusiliers, and was present at the battles of Alma (wounded) and

of the Urzoo villages (CB., Medal with Clasp). Commanded the 3rd Batta'ion 60th Rifles throughout the Boer
war of 1880-S1, and was present at the actions of Laing's Nek (mentioned in despatches) and the Ingogo River
'mentioned in despatches). Commanded the 3rd Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps throughout the Egyptian
war of 1882, including the reconnaissance in force from Alexandria on August 5th, the engagement at Tel-el-
Mahuta and the action at Kasassin (9th Sept.), and commanded the 4th Infantry Brigade at the battle of Tel-.
el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches. Aide de Camp to the Queen. KCB., Medal with Clasp, 3rd Class of the Medjidie,
and Khedivie's Star). Served throughout the Soudan Expedition under Sir Gerald Graham in 1884 in command

H Major-General William Bally served in the Eastern campaign in 1855 with the 33rd Regiment subsequent to
the fall of Sebastopol. Served as Aide de Camp to Brigadier General Collings in the Abyssinian campaign in
1S67-6S (mentioned in despatches for " zeal and intelligence," Medal).
35 Major General H. M. Bengough commanded a Battalion of the Natal Native Contingent during the Zulu
war of 1S79, and was present in the engagement at Ulundi (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of lit. Colonel, Medal
with Clasp). Served with the Burmese Expedition in 1885-86 as Assistant Adjutant and Quarter-Master General
(menticned in despatches, CB. and Medal with Clasp).
3G Major General De Symons Barrow served in Cmde during the suppression of the mutiny in 1S58-59; present
at the action for the relief of Saudeela and at the action of Jummoo (mentioned in despatches). Commanded a
Regiment of Military Police with the Column under Sir George Barker in all subsequent operations till the con-
clusion of the campaign. Had Divisional command of the Military Police watching the Nepaul Frontier after the
retreat of the rebel army and until the withdrawal of the Police in October 1850 (Medal).
"8 Major General H. J. Barton served in the Afghan war in 1879-80 (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal).
39 Major General N. Barton served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 (Medal). Served in the Afghan war in
1878-79, and was present in the affair at Saif-u-deen (mentioned in despatches, Medal).
4 l Major General C. B. Basden served against the insurgents in Bundlecund iniS44-45 including the capture of the
fort of Geguahut. Received a sabre wonndin the right arm at the mutiny of the late 61st Bengal Native Infantry
on the 7th June 1S57 ; served afterwards in the Indian Mutiny campaign (Medal). Was in command of the 5th
Punjaub Cavalry aud frontier of Dehra Ismael Khan on the 13th March i860 when 3000 Mahsoon Wuzeerees who
threatened the city of Tak were repulsed, leaving 200 dead on the field.
4:1 Major General G. M. Battye served in the Burmese war in 1852-54, and was present at the recapture of Pegu
(Medal with Clasp for Pegu).

of the Burrura Pass, taking of Makeen, and other minor affairs (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in ,
1879-80, and took part in the defence of Candahar including the sortie of Deh Khojah, and was present at the
battle of Candahar (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
48 Major General J. H. Bedford served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1S58, and was present at the action
of Kota-ke-Serai, and at the siege and capture of Gsvalior (Medal).

50 Major General W. Black served with the 42nd Highlanders in the Crimea from 14th June 1855, including

51 Major General T. S. Bigge served with the 23rd Futeiliers in the Crimea from the 28th Nov. 1854, including the
siege of Sebastopol, assault of the Quarries on 7th June, and assaults of the Redan on the 18th June and 8th Sept.,
and was wounded in the Trenches on the night of the 24th August (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie
and Turkish Medal). Served with the 5th Fusiliers in the Indian campaign in 1857-59, including the action at
Sheorajpore, defence of the Alumbagh in October and November, relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, including-
attacks on the Dilkoosha Martiniere and Secunderbagh, defence of the Alumbagh under Outram from November
to March including the whole of the operations, siege and capture of Lucknow, and subsequent campaign in Oude
in 1858-59, including the action of Buxar Ghat and defeat of the rebels under Beni Madhoo, and capture of Fort
Omereah (Medal with two Clasps, and grant of a year's service).
53 Major General J. Black served in the campaign in the Southern Mahratta Country in 1844-45, including the
capture of Punalla and Powunghur.
H Sir E. W. Blackett served with the Rifle Brigade the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 26th July 1855,
and was present at the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and the siege of Sebastopol, including
the assault of the Redan on the iSth June, when he commanded a ladder party and was dangerously wounded — left
