2 Major General Gregorie served with the 23rd Fusiliers in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58 as Adjutant
of the 23rd Fusiliers, and was present at the relief of LucVnow and also at its subsequent capture (Medal with
two Clasps). Served in the Egyptian war of 1S82, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in
despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star).
9 Lt.Colonel Orr took part in the Egyptian Expedition in 1S82, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal
â– with Clasp, and Bronze Star). Took part in the Hazara Expedition in 1888 (Medal with Clasp). Took part in the
operations on the North West Frontier of India in 1897-98, and on the Samana (Medal with two Clasps). Served in
the South African war in 1900-01, and took part in the operations in the Orange Free State, March to May 1900 ; in
the Transvaal, east of Pretoria; in the Orange River Colony; and in Cape Colony, south of Orange River, including
the action at Colesberg {VSO).
11 Lt.Colonel Downing served in the Hazara Expedition in 1888 with the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, in-
cluding the engagement at Kotkai (Medal with Clasp). Served in the South African war in 1900-01, taking part in the
operations in the Orange Free State, March to May 1900 ; in the Transvaal, east of Pretoria, Aug. to 29th Nov. 1900,
including actions at Belfast, 26th and 27th Aug., and Lydenburg, 5th to 8th Sept. ; in the Orange River Colony, in
-eluding actions at Bethlehem, 6th and 7th July, and Wittebergen, 1st to 29th July ; and in Cape Colony, south o
Orange River, 1900, including actions at Colesberg, 15th Jan. to 12th Feb. Served as Adjutant of the Battalion from
12th Jan. to 29th Nov. iqoo.
13 Lt.Colonel Morris served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-35 (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served
with the Burmese Expedition in 1885-87 as Transport Officer (Medal with Clasp) ; and again in 1888-8 as Chief
Transport Officer to the Karen Field Force (mentioned in despatches, Clasp). Served with the Chin-Lushai Ex-
peditionary Force in 1889-90 as Chief Transport Officer to the Burma Column (received the thanks of the Govern-
ment of India, mentioned in despatches, DSO. and Clasp). Commanded two expeditions against tribes in the
Northern Territories of the Gold Coast in 1900 (twice mentioned in despatches). Took part in the operations ir.
Ashanti in 1900 in command of a detachment entering Kumasi— severely wounded. Commanded the garrison
during the defence of Kumasi, and later commanded a column breaking out of that town (mentioned in des-
patches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp). Commanded expedition against the Tiansis in 1901
{mentioned in despatches).
