26 Major W. P. Burton was present at the destruction of vessels and vast quantities of stores at Brahistadt ia
the Gulf of Bothnia on the 30th May 1854, and at Cleaborg on the 1st and 2nd June, and in the boats at the attack
on Gamla Carleby, on the 7th June ; also present at the operations against Bomarsund in August 1854. Served with
the Baltic Expedition in 1855, and was at the bombardment of Sweaborg, and employed in the rocket-boats on the
nights of the oth and 10th August (Medal) .

Clasp).
27 Major Bowman served in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned
(in despatches Medal, with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).

present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Promoted Major in Reserve for
services in connection with the South African war of 1899-1902.
29 Major Shaen Carter served with the 51st Light Infantry in the Afghan war in 1878-79, and was present in the
Bazar Valley Expedition under Lieut.General Maude, and in the Maidan Expedition under Brigadier General
Tytler (Medal).
29t Major H. Chevers served with the 63rd Regiment in Southern Afghanistan in 1879-80 (Medal). Served with
the 1st Battalion Manchester Regiment in the Egyptian war of 1882 (Medal, and Khertive's Star).
30 Major E. Chadwick served in South African war in 1899-1901 with the Imperial Yeomanry (mentioned in des-
patches (Medal with four Clasps).
31 Major T. J. Chamberlayne served in the Transvaal in charge of two 6-pounder guns in November and
December 1878 ; was with the 80th Regiment in the Column under Colonel Rowlands on the S wazi border in 1879,
and during the invasiou of Znluland and the engagement at Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
31 t Major G. A. Chapman served with the Zhob Valley Expedition in 1S84.
32 Major Close serv x\ in the South African war in 1899-1900, and was present at the battle of C ilenso, in the
operations of 21st to 24th January 1900 including the action at Spion Kop, the engagements at Vaal Krantz and
Pieter's Kill, and the relief of Ladysmith.
32 t Major A. Collins served in Natal during the Zulu war in 1879 (Medal).
33 Major S. T. Collins served on the China Expedition of 1857-59, including the blockade of the Canton river,
the landing before, storm and capture of the city ; action with the Braves on 4th Jan. 1859, and again at the
pillage of Shektsing ; present atthe detached post West Gate, Canton, when attacked on the night of the 26th July
1858; also at the attack on the Peiho Forts, on 25th June 1859, where he was severely wounded by a matchlock-
bullet i n the left leg while saving a wounded marine from drowning in the ad vauced ditch (Medal with three Clasps) .

36 Major A. Cook was employed with a detachment of the 32nd Madras Infantry that formed part of the force
in the field to intercept the rebels under Tantia Topee from 9th November 1858. Was engaged in the pursuit
of insurgent Shans on the northeastern frontier of Tenasserim and Martaban Provinces during May i860.

in Orange Free State 'rom Feb. to May 1900, including actions at Driefontein, Houtnek, Vet River, and Zand
River; in the Transvaal May and June 1900, including aations near Johannesburg, Pretoria, and at Diamond
Hill; in Orange River Colony aud Cape Colony between 30th Nov. 1900 and 31st May 1902 Commanded the
Burma Mounted Infantry from 1st April to 5th Nov. 1900, and the 7th Corps Mounted Inlantry from 6th Nov.
1900 to 16th Jan. 1901. Served with the 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment from toth Jan. to 31st May 1902. Severely
wounded at Tabaksberg 9th Jan. iqoi (Medal with five Clasps, King's Medal with two Clasps).
39 t Major D. C. Courtney served in the Zulu war of 1879, and was in Ekowe during the investment (mentioned
in despatches, Medal wirh Clasp). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was present at the action at
Kirbekan (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
*° Major W. F. J. Cowan embarked for the Gold Coast with the 2nd Battalion 23rd Fusiliers, and served in the
Becond phase of the Ashanti war in 1874, including the battle of Amoaful, taking of Becquah, battle of Ordahsu
and capture of Coomassie (Medal and Clasp).

Sevastopol in 1854 (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
43 Major J. W. Daniell served in the Burmese war of 1852-53, and was present at the relief of the garrison of Pegu
and in the different engagements in the vicinity; also accompanied the Martaban Column (Medal with Clasp for
Pegu). Served throughout the Indian Mutiny campaign of 1857-59, including the battle of Budleekeserai, siege of
Delhi with repulse of sorties on the 9th and :2th June, actions in rear of the Camp on the 19th and 20th June,
repulse of sorties on 23rd June, 9th and 14th July 1857 (severely wounded). Also present at the siege and capture
of Lucknow in March 1858, including the actions of the 6th 7th nth 16th and 17th March ; afterwards served in
the action of Barree, and throughout the campaign in Oude (Medal with two Clasps 1.
"t Major W. A. Cuppage served in the Burmese Expedition 1886 to 1887, severely wounded in an engagement
in the Shan Hills (mentioned in despatches Medal with Clasp).
