13 Lord Fincastle served with the Dongola Expeditionary Force under Sir Herbert Kitchener in r896 with the
Egyptian Cavalry (British Medal, and Khedive's Medal with Clasp). Served in the campaign on the North West
Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in i8g7-g8 as Aide de Camp to Sir Bindon Blood, Commanding Mala-
kand Field Force, and was present in the engagement at Landakai ; also with the Buner Field Force as Aide de Camp
to Sir Bindon Blood (three times mentioned in despatches, xTlft and Medal with two Clasps); was awarded the
Victoria Cross for conspicuous bravery during the operations on the North West Frontier of India in r897, as here
recorded : — " During the fighting at Nawa Kili, in Upper Swat, on the 17th August 1897, Lt. Colonel R. B. Adams
proceeded with Lieuts. H. L. S: MacLean and Viscount Fincastle, and five men of the Guides, under a very heavy and
close fire, to the rescue of Lieut. R: T. Greaves, Lancashire Fusiliers, who was lying disabled by a bullet wound
and surrounded by the enemy's swordsmen. In bringing him under cover he (Lieut. Greaves) was struck by a bullet
and killed — Lieut. MacLean was mortally wounded — whilst the horses of Lt. Colonel Adams and Lieut: Viscount
Fincastle were shot, as well as two troop horses." Served in the South African war in 1899— rgoo, rgo2 on the Staff,

13 Captain Eccles served in South African war in 1899-1902 and took part in relief of Kimberley ; operations in Orange
Free State, Feb. to May rgoo, including Paardeberg, and actions at Poplar Grove, Houtnek, and Zand River ; in
Transvaal in May and June 1900, including action near Johannesburg ; in Cape Colony, north of Orange River ; and
in Transvaal, east of Pretoria, including action at Belfast — wounded; and in Cape Colony June igor to 31st May igc-2

14 Captain Campbell served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in
r8g7-g8 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force, in command of a Maxim Gun detachment of the 16th Lancers, and
was present at the capture of the Sampagha and Arhanga Passes, and in the operations in the Waran and Bara Valleys
(Medal with two Clasps). Served in South African war in i899-igor on the Staff (mentioned in despatches, Medal with
three Clasps).
15 Captain Macculloch served in South African war in rgoo-02, and took part in relief of Kimberley ; operations in
Orange Free State, Feb. to May igoo, including operations at Paardeberg and actions at Poplar Grove, Karree Siding,
and Houtnek ; in Orange River Colony, March igor, and Cape Colony, July 1901 to May 1902 (Medal with three Clasps,
