Major H. B. 0. Williams served in South African war in 1901-02, and took part in operations in Transvaal May and
July 1901 ; in Orange River Colony Feb. 1901 to 31st May 1902 ; on the Zululand Frontier of Natal in Sept. and Oct.
1901 • and in Cape Colony Feb. 1901 (Medal with three Clasps).
10 Major H. A. Thompson served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lock-
hart in 1897-98 with the Tochi Field Force as Orderly Officer 2nd Brigade, and afterwards with the Tirah.
Expeditionary Force as Assistant Transport Officer 3rd Brigade 2nd Division (Medal with two Clasps). Served in South
African war as Aide de Camp to Major General Brook, CB. commanding Harrismith District, 1901-02 (Medal
with two Clasps).
11 Lt. Colonel Grenfell served in the campaign in the Soudan under Sir Herbert Kitchener in 1898 as Acting Orderly
Officer to Brigadier General Lyttelton, and was present at the battle of Khartoum (mentioned in despatches, Brevet
of Major, British Medal, and Khedive's Medal with Clasp). Served in the South African war in 1899-T902 as Special
Service Officer. Commanded 2nd Regiment of Brabant's Horse from December, 1899, to March, 1901; served also,
with Kitchener's Fighting Scouts. Took part in the operations in the Orange Free State, February to May, 1900,.
including the defence of Wepener; in the Transvaal, East of Pretoria, July to 29th November, 1900; in the
Transvaal, West of Pretoria, in 1900, including the actions at Frederickstad ; in Orange River Colony, May to
29th November, 1900, including the actions at Lindley, Bethlehem, Wittebergen, and Caledon River; and in Cape
Colony, South of Orange River (four times mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt. Colonel, King's Medal with two Clasps).
