1 Captain Roes served in the New Zealand war in 1864-65, and was severely wounded in the enna"ement at
Te Arei (Medal).
3 Major Organ served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 with the 1st Rattalion Yorkshire Regiment on the
Lines of Communication up the Nile. Served with the Soudan Frontier Force in 1885-86 during the operations
on the Upper Nile, and was present in the engagements at Giniss (Modal with Khedive's Star). Served in the
South African war in 1399-1902 with the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, and took part in the operations round
Colesberg in Jan. 1900; took part in the relief of Kimberley, the march along the Modder River, including the
engagements at Paardeberg, roplar Grove, and Driefontein, and the capture of Bloemfontein; in the advance
on Dewetsdorp, including the engagement at Leeuwkop ; in the march from Bloemfontein to Pretoria, including
the passage of the Vet, Zand, and Vaal Rivers; the engagements at Kroonstad, Brandfort, and Johannesburg!
occupation of Pretoria and the advance into the Eastern Transvaal, including the engagements at Diamond
Hill and Belfast. Employed as Regimental Transport Officer from Dec. 1900 till Sept. 1902 (mentioned in
despatches ; hon. rank of Major, Medal with six Clasps, King's Modal with two Clasps).
* Major J. W. Daniell served in the Burmese war in 1852-53 and was present at the relief of the garrison of
r"egu and in the different engagements in the vicinity; also accompanied the Martaban Column (Medal with
31asp). Served throughout the Indian Mutiny campaign of 1857-59, including the battle of Bidlecknserai, siege of
Delhi with repulse of sorties on 23rd June, and 5H1 and 14th July— severely wounded. Also present at the siege and
laptnre of Lucknovv in March 1858, including actions ; afterwards served in the action of Burree and throughout
he campaign in Oude (Medal with two Clasps;.
