Peiho in June 1S59 (wounded severely). Alsoservel the campaign of i3no (lledal with Clasp). Served in the
Chinese Coolie Corps in 1858-59).
460 Lt.Colonel H. F. Smyth served in the Afghan war of 1873-80. first in the Koorum Valley, and afterwards in
Gough's force in command of a Hazara Battery. Subsequently served with the Royal Horse Artillery in the ex-
peditions into the Wuzeer and Hissarik Valleys (Medal). Served with the Zhcb Galley Expedition in 1S84 as
Provost Marshal. Served in the Soudan campaign in 1885, and was present in the engagement at Hasheen
(Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
461 Lt.Colonel Smyth-Windham served in the Afghan war in 1379-80, and was present in the engagement at
Charasiah on the 6th October 1879 (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
462 Lt.Colonel H. Spalding was attached to the 53rd Regiment in the Indian Mutiny campaign, from May to
October 1858, and was present at the passage of the Goomtee and occupation ot Sultanpore (Medal). Sarved in
the Kafir war in 1877-78 as Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quarter Master General, and was present iu tho
operations against the Galekas; also served in the Zulu war in 1879 (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
463 Lt.Colonel E. T. B. Sparks served in the operations in Zululand in 1S88.
465 Lt.Colonel M. Spratt served with the R.M. Battalion at Eupatoria and with the Brigade in the Crimea ; was
present at the battle of Balaklava and during the siege and fall of Sebastopol, part of the time as Adjutant of a
Battalion ; he was also at the surrender of Kinbourn (Medal with two Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turk-
ish Medal). Served on the China Expedition of 1857-59, including the blockade of the Canton river, the landing
before and capture of the city. Served with the expedition to the north of China in 1S60, and at Shanghae during
the attacks of the rebel army in August (Medal with Clasp, .

1879 with the Thull Chotiali and Vitakri Field Forces (Medal).
467 Lt.Colonel John Stanlej - served in Canada in 1866 during the invasion of the Fenians (Medal with Clasp).

employed before Sebastopol until its fall, and at the bombardment and surrender of Kinbourn (Medal with Clasp,

469 Lt.Colonel F. A. Stebbing served at the siege and assault of Delhi in 1857, and during the six days'
fighting in the city;, afterwards present in the affairs of Gungaree, Puttiwalla, and Mynpoorie (Medal with

a Light Field Battery, including the investment, surrender and destruction of the fort at Al-Hota, and march to
Zaida in pursuit of the rebel Ali bin Mana, Chief of Toodlee.
471 Lt.Colonel J. Stewart served with the 24th Regiment in the Puujaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present at
thebattle of Goojerat (Medal with Clasp).
472 Lt.Colonel J. Stoyte served with the 55th Regiment in the Afghan war in i83o, and was present in the en-
gagements at Ahmed Kheyl and Urzoo near Ghuznee (Medal with Clasp).

despatches for " ability, energy, and zeal," Medal). Served in the Afghan war in 1878-79, and was present at the
capture of the Peiwar Kotal (Medal with Clasp), and with the Mahsood Wuzeeree Expedition in 1S81.

475 Lt.Colonel W. T. Stuart served throughout the Indian Mutiny campaign of 1857-58; marched with the
Sappers and Miners to Meerutat the outbreak of the mutiny: present at the actions of the 30th and -,ist May on
the Hindun, battle of Budleekeserai and stormiDg of the heights before Delhi on the 8th June 1S57, throughout tho
siege assault and capture of Delhi, actions of Allyghur and Agra, at Futtehpore Sikree, capture of Fort Mittowlee,
actions of Allyghur and Biswah (Medal with Clasp, and promoted to the rank of Ensign). Served in the Afghan
war of 1873-80 in the Khyber line of communications (Medal).
476 Lt.Colonel C. D. Swete served with the Burmese Expedition in [807 (Me.l.il with Clasp).
479 Lt.Colonel A. Tanner served in the 72nd Highlanders throughout the operations in Central India and pursuit
of the rebel force under Tantia Topee and the Rao in 1858-59.

action with the forts on 15th August (Medal;. In 1855 he wa3 present during the siege of Sebastopol until its fall,
and was in action with the outer forts on the lyth June, engaged shellingthe batteries in Soujak Bay, aud expelling
the Russian garrison 12th March, and in action with the batteries ot Soujak Kale 1 }th March; assisted at the land""-
ing of the troops at Kinbourn, and at the bombardment of that Fort (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie
and Turkish Medal).
485 Lt.Colonel C. E. Theobald served in the 15th Regiment in the Bhootan Expelition in 1365 (Medal with
Clasp).
