320 Brigade Surgeon B. Lane served with the 80th Regiment in the Burmese war of 1852-53, including the attack
an the outpost of Tomboo and several operations in its vicinity (Medal with Clasp for Pegtil. Noticed"in General
Orders by the Commander in Thief in India of 10th November 1S53 for assiduous attention to the sick on an
occasion when the whole detachment at Tomboo were prostrated by fever. Also during the suppression of the
Indian mutiny in 1858 and present at the action on the banks of the .fumna on the 5th March (Medal).
321 Brigade Surgeon J. Langdon served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 (Medal).
S2a Brigade Surgeon H. J. H. Lawrence served the Crimean campaign from Nov. 1854. including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 with the
Grenadier Guards (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).

campaign under Sir John Michel, and was present at the battles of Beora, Mongroulie, Sindwayu, and affair of

384 Lt. Colonel F. A. L'Estrange served it the Ashanti war in 1873-74 in medical charge of the 1st West
India Regiment, and was present at the battle of Amoaful and the capture of Coomassie ; afterwards served as
Transport Medical Officer for the embarkation of the sick and wounded (Medal with Clasp). Served with the
Nile Expedition in 1884-85 (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
325 Surgeon Major R. C. Lever served in the expedition against the Mohmund Tribe9 on the Punjab frontier
in 1863-64 with the 7th Hussars (Medal with Clasp).
327 Brigade Surgeon E. H. Lloyd served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 in charge of the Field Hospital at
Kaibar 1 Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
328 Brigade Surgeon A. Long served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 (Medal).
339 Surgeon Major A. E. T. Longhnrst served in the Crimean campaign of 1854-55, including the siege of Sebas-
topol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the Indian campaign of 1858-59, and was present in
the actions at Jugdespore (mentioned in despatches for " untiring zeal and courageous attention throughout tha
day "(and Toolsepore (Medal).
331 Brigade Surgeon J. J. M'Carthy served throughout the campaign in China in t16o (Medal with two Clasps).
Also in the operations against the Taeping rebels in 1862. and was appointed a Knight of the Legion of Honor as
■a mark of His Imperial Majesty's approbation of his services, while under fire, to French soldiers wounded in
China, and especially to the late Admiral Protet at the moment when he was mortally wounded." Also served in
the Afghan war in 1878-79 (Medal).
333 Surgeon Major E. L. M'Sheehy served in medical charge of the 1st Dragoon Guards in China throughout the
campaign of i860, including the action of Sinho, the fall of the Taku Forts, the actions of the 18th and 21st Septem-
ber, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with Clasps).
337 Brigade Surgeon C. Mackinnon served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58, and was present at the
attack on the rebels near Peeroo in the .Tugdespore Jungles on utii May 1858 (Medal).
339 Surgeon Major 0. B. Miller served with the 77th Regiment throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,
including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, capture of Balaklava, assaults on the Redan of the 18th June and 8th
September, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
340 Surgeon Major A. Minto served in the Ashanti war of 1873-74 (Medal). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80,
and took part in the march to Candahar with the force under Major General Phayre (Medal). Served with the
Burmese Expedition in 1885-87 (Medal with Clasp).
344 Brigade Surgeon T. Moriarty served with the expedition against the Jowaki Afreedees in 1877-78 (Medal
with Clasp).
345 Surgeon Major A. Morphew served as Principal Medical Officer throughout the operations in Quiah, Western
Africa ; was present at the capture and destruction of Massongha on 10th December, storming and destruction of
the stockades and war fences at Madonkia on 19th Decembor, capture and destruction of the stockade at Ma-
denkia on the night of the 27th December, of the Fetish town of Robea on 28th December 1861, and of the tawns
of Mefemba and Majohn on 17th Jan. 1S62 (mentioned in despatches).
346 Deputy Surgeon General C. B. Mosse served in medical charge of the expeditiorary force up the River
Gambia in June 1866 and was present at the assault and capture of the stockaded town of Tubarcolong. Pro-
moted Staff Surgeon " in consideration of his valuable services during the epidemic of the yellow fever'at the
Gambia." Served from June 1873 in the Ashanti war of 1873-74, including the action of Essamau (mentioned in
despatches). Was in Medical Charge of Wood's Regiment and the Troops commanded by Colonel Wood at the
head of the road when following the enemy from Mansu to the river Prah, including the reconnaissance of the
27th November. Present at the battle of Amoaful, battle of Ordahsu, and capture of Coomassie (mentioned in
despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp).
348 Brigade Surgeon T. B. P. O'Brien served in medical charge of the expeditionary force against the hostile Indians
of Yucatan in 1858, and served with the troops engaged in suppression of disturbances throughout the Northern
distriots of British Honduras in that year.
349 Surgeon Major E.O'Connell served in the NewZcaland war of 1863-66; in the Waikato campaign, and had
medical charge of the Right Wing of a Flying Column under Major Rutherford, 70th Regiment, from Jan. to April
1864 ; East Coast campaign, and present at the Gate Pah and Te Ranga engagements (mentioned in despatches) ;
General Chute's expedition from Wangauui to Taranaki and back, and present at the attacks on Okotuku, Putahi,
Otapawa, Kitioniti, Pukiti, Ketemaria, Waikoko, and Merimeri (Medal).
333 Brigade Surgeon Owen Owen served in the field with the 50th Regiment during the Ne<v Z3iland war in
1865-66 (Medal). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present at the attack and capture of Ali Musjid
(Medal with Clasp).
336 Surgeon Major R. C. Parkinson served in the Zulu war in 1879 (Medal). Served in the Boer war in 1881 as
Senior Medical Officer at the defence of Standerton.
347 Brigade Surgeon L. O. Patterson served in medical charge of a field force in 1856 against the rebel Kareens in
Burmah, and was present in six engagements. Served in India during the mutiny in 1858-59; was in medioal
charge of the Arrah Field Force from June to Oct. 1858, and present in action at Sirthjoa (wounded). Julpoora,
Brahminagunge, Rampore, Perowra, Jumaon, Karrisath, and Jugdespore ; volunteered to overtake Lt. Colonel Sir
H. Havelock and take medical charge of his Cavalry ; present with them at the charge and action at Neenadoe,
present again with the field force in the last action at Mahoolan.and in several other minor skirmishes (throe
times mentioned in despatches, Medal).
360 Deputy Surgeon General W. Perry served with the Royal Artillery throughout the Eastern campaigu of
1854-55, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and sortie of the 26th Oct.
1854 (Medal with three Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
361 Deputy Inspector General E. S. Protheroe servedwiththe Royal Artillery in the Crimean campaign from the 30th

Nuddee, in the operations of Cawnpore under General Windham, battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec. 1S57, siege
and capture of Lucknow, subsequent operations in Oude, action of Nawab Gunge, passage of the Goomtee, and
occupation of Sultanpore (Medal and Clasp). Served in the Zulu war of 1879 (Uedal with Clasp).
